Can't blame the guy, though; his eyes are always closed. Though in the Hoenn region they actually called it a rice ball back when Jessie caught her Seviper.

That's a hell of a ******** up on the part of whoever was in charge of localization.

Oh no, it was deliberate. 4Kids basically wanted to 'Americanize' the anime so they changed a bunch of s**t with equally shitty editing.
One of my favorites is when they changed a riceball rolling down a hill into a sandwich.

I highly recommend checking out a video of their infamous One Piece edits too, as they tried to 'kiddy-ize' OP just the same.

When your boss forces you to not acknowledge the highly Japanese imagery you gotta do what you can even if it's obviously dumb.

It's like in Sailor Moon when they turned Uranus and Neptune into 'cousins'. It's obvious they were lesbians but the dub writers had to censor it because it was their job. And jelly donuts is better than some of the other things they try to pass those off as.
