Yes, it'd be great.
Even though Skype has IM, Not everyone has Skype.
So I think it'd be nice to have a new IM system on gaia.

Oh wow, Gaia used to have an IM feature years ago. I had completely forgotten about it until I saw this topic. I'm not sure when it disappeared or why. And now remembering it makes me kind of sad, LOL. I liked that feature. Sadly, since most of my friends have left this site, even if they brought the feature back I'd probably have no one to use it with. But that's okay. I'd like to sign anyway, because it's a good idea and I don't know why they got rid of it.
