This is very true if it weren't for Faramir and his men Smegol might have stayed loyal to Frodo and thus the ring might never have been destroyed.

cant blame it all on faramir though, he had a kingdom to think about and a war in his face.

But deffinitely agree. Sam was great, and even though he was harsh to Smeagol he had a good reason not to trust him. Gollum spent years in a cave feasting on flesh and could betray them, his obsession was too strong.
