A racist is someone who holds any type of prejiduce (usually negative ones)towards people of a different racial or ethinic background than themselves. These feelings can be either directed towards other peoples/cultures in general, or towards a particular group of people.

Thinking that someone one is "hot" because they have certain ethenic features isn't racist--it's just his preference. Now, if he had said something like "Japanese girls are hot... but so are all Asians, since there's not a lot of difference between them," THAT would have been racist.

(For the record, I'd like to point out that there are a vast number of differences between the different peoples of Asia and their cultures--so much so that it would take several thick books and a college education just to stratch the surface of it all. So I think I can be forgiven for not going into detail about such things here.)

From some experience in Japan, I can say that if you want to find a Japanese girl straight out of Japan, you may be in for a bit of culture shock. Perhaps you should find one that's living in America (second generation or something) rather than going to Japan to get one.

But if you do go, take some classes and learn the language.

I think Asians women are gorgeous, and I'm not saying that because I'm Asian. I find our features to be striking in some higher level. I would advise you to learn the Japanese language and culture. It would certainly help you out a lot (especially with impressing the parents). Also try befriending the girl first and don't just jump at her throat when you want to ask her out.
