xxxDust flew in a plum of ivory clouds before a sudden gust of wind dispersed the fine grains, vanishing into the air. Dense, gray bodies floated over the land bearing such a weight that it seemed the sky would buckle beneath its burden. Its shadows cast an dismal gloom over the land it lingered and with it, a chill filled the normally smoldering air. It was as if the land was being covered by ash and soot, but the heat and turmoil that it spawned from had long since left, leaving behind a putrid smell of decay. Many figures laid there motionless beneath the shadows of the ominous clouds overhead. Some of those lifeless vessels were still warm to the touch and bathed in crimson and steel.

Weapons littered the field. Guns discarded and soaked in a mixture of mud and blood. Bullet holes filled both man and beast alike. Death didn't bother to discriminate on who would fall into its depths, but the damage was already done. Had the war been won? The toll of life drew in a heavy price, the weight of which pressed down on the two remaining warriors in this field of decay. Burning sapphires combed over the sea of bodies finally feeling the gravity of loss sink in to his mind, adding yet another weight to an already cumbersome heart. For just a moment he had forgotten its toll through the embrace of another who was finishing slipping on her boots. Gazing upon the white sands, Cloud was heavy in thought when a ringing sound echoed forth from the desolation.

" Not a moment too soon, eh? " Just as Cloud was about to turn, he felt a hand press against his shoulder, softly. A soft chuckle came from her lips as Cloud's glowing eyes focused back on her.

" Emelia... " He muttered softly, acknowledging the look she gave him. Just as she parted from him, he had reached into his pocket to withdraw his cellphone which he opened and held to his ear. " ... No, I'm fine. " He responded faintly and turned once again to see Emelia reaching down and scooping up a few dog tags. " Is everyone else alright? " Before long, there was a faint green light, orbs along with ribbons of energy drifted forth from a figure down below. The hours that had elapsed had finally given way and the planet was taking her children back. Slowly that body was fading and orbs departed and faded from sight much light the plums of dust. Another faint glow surrounded a body, then another and another on random corpses that littered these ruins. " Where... are you? "

However, after that Cloud said nothing. His eyes were focused on what was becoming a vast array of lights. Those radiant, mako colored orbs drifted up into the air making it look as if there was a hoard of fireflies drifting with the wind and even slightly against it. Soft faint sounds resonated with the coming of the sea of light. Both man and beast had their bodies returning to the planet and with it they took the form of light. Ribbons drifted upwards like snakes reaching for the heavens before they too would slowly dissipate the higher they flown from the ground. The lives of many lost could never look more beautiful to Cloud's eyes. Truly it was a marvel to his eyes, but as they vacated those bodies, tinges of regret flickered with every leaving light.

Cloud couldn't really save anyone. It was a miracle that him and Emelia were still alive, but the nightmare that took over the land was lifting like a bad dream. Slowly Cloud shut his phone and his eyes averted from the awe inspiring scene of pyreflies. Once the bodies had faded, dog tags were left laying against the ground where their owners once laid. Approaching a transparent body, Cloud stopped as the body burst into light and reaching down, he took up the dog tag and looked it over, " The others are already back at base. " He replied and turned to watch Emelia within the sea of radiant green, " It's... not far. Once we finish here... We'll head back. "

The field had once been filled with a barrage of sounds ranging from gun shots to screams of rage and agony. Now it was completely silent, the dead bodies of allies and foes alike lying throughout the barren land. The gloom of the sky seemed to fit the mood as Emelia finally slipped on her boots and got up, touching Cloud's shoulder briefly as he moved to answer his phone. The brief moments of pleasure, of connecting with someone who was just as grief stricken as you, never lasted long. She would hold it close to her heart, but looking back out at all the people they had lost defending Gaia from destruction made a heavy lump form in her stomach. The stench of death was everyone, the sharp metallic smell of blood reaching her nostrils as she crept near the bodies to say final prayers and gather the dog tags. These men and women's family would wish to know the fate of their daughters, sons, brothers, sisters, and so on.

Each familiar face she passed, the more constricted her heart felt. Emelia remembered each person's smile and laugh, their different quirks, their combat skill, and most of all what good friends they had been to her. They had helped her to where she was now in the WRO and she had much to be grateful for because of them. They had stuck by her side since she first started those few years ago and now she was one of the few standing still. She closed the open eyes of many dead, closing her own as she inhaled deeply. Tears threatened to spill, but she knew their lives weren't in vain. This was what they wanted, to protect their world and protect the innocent. They were all heroes and would be forever remembered as such. They would not be forgotten, least of all by those who knew them well.

As the bodies began to dissolve into green bursts of light, Emelia took a step back. In awe, she watched as the bodies of foe and ally alike was returned to the Lifestream. It was a beautiful and tragic sight, watching the lights lift and dissipate. There was no question about what happened after death, but Emelia wondered if these souls would ever live again, maybe in a different form or shape. The only things left of these dead were the remaining dog tags. Cloud, by then, had rejoined her, expressing that the others were back at base already. "It's over then...for now." She murmured as she glanced at the dog tags hanging from her arm. There were so many that it was unbelievable, and made her sick at the same time. When would their world know peace again?

"...Now I sort of get why you are more of a recluse. It's painful losing somebody you care about and especially when its a lot more than just one person." Emelia muttered as she flicked her gaze to Cloud, a half smile passing over her visage before she tucked the tags away in a pouch strapped to her waist. For a while, they searched the field and gathered the remaining tags out there until finally they had collected them all. Sweat dripped down the side of Emelia's neck as she wiped some from her brow. It was hot despite the gloom and she couldn't wait to get away from this site. Away from the memory of the lost ones. "So what is the next plan? After informing the families of course...." She said as she started towards the path that would bring them back to their base.

xxxDrifting towards her arm where those dog tags hung and shimmered, mako infused eyes narrowed their focused and in silence there came but a single nod. For now; those words resonated deep within Cloud. Cataclysms that threatened the planet had been in great abundance ever since the day the meteor first appeared in the sky. Each catastrophe felt just as bad as the last and they all continued to assault the people relentlessly. How could he remain a silent hero when it felt as though the world was constantly demanding his rescue? No, it was deeper than that. All these events had damaged the psyche and hope of the people of Gaia. How long would it take till they lost hope completely? Was this really over? Did they finish off all the remnants to this madness? This huge surge of alien beasts attacking the people, were they really the culprits to this horror? Cloud couldn't be so sure and found himself shutting his eyes as if he were still reflecting upon the regret choking him from within.
Would peace always be as fleeting?

"...Now I sort of get why you are more of a recluse... "

Emelia's voice drew Cloud to her, opening his eyes, he watched her for a moment, seeing the twinkle of green pyreflies reflect from her eyes as they ascended to the sky. An eerie sort of shimmering sound accompanied them as he finished listening to what the marksman was telling him. This was a lot for one person to take in and he knew that inside Emelia was feeling crushed by the pain. Forever this day would be imprinted in her memories as a giant metal serpent constricting and straining her heart. Those burning sapphires dashed left and right, confused and uncertain about what he should tell her or what he should do to ease the sorrow. All he had to go by was what he could recall his dear friends doing for him to make him feel stronger. When he was upset Zack would always pitch him a brighter side, pat his shoulder, or ruffle his hair with a smile that grew contagious.

Watching her, he finally mustered the courage and rested his hand on her head, brushing forward, he soon pulled her golden bangs back to reveal her forehead and leaning in, he pressed his lips softly against her forehead. Pulling back, those bright orbs scanned her face, " Yes, but none of them would want me living this way. " Slowly he withdrew his hand and continued to help gather dog tags until they were sure they had retrieved as many as they could handle. When they were reunited and on their way back to Midgar, Cloud sighed and shook his head, " I don't know. " He admitted, " All we can do is go back and wait to see what happens. " There came a pause as he turned his gaze to the ominous clouds above, " It... feels strange. This.. feels nothing like Jenova. " Although when he turned to look back at Emelia, he wasn't even sure if she knew what Jenova was. The majority of humans didn't know of her existence and how she was tied to the meteor.

They could see Edge in the distance as some of those clouds parted to allow small beams of morning light shed upon the jungle of metal.

XXXXRinging. It was an electronic buzzing going off besides the ear of an ex-SOLDIER emanating from the device he held in his clutches. Weiss had already left his cabin by now, but those icy blue hues remained focused on the door, almost as if he expected his companion to come back in again. Although when it came to this phone call, Genesis wasn't sure what he was expecting. Part of him wondered who would even bother to call his old abandoned cell. As far as the world knew, he was dead.. so then why? Gentle waves clashed against the edges of the large vessel, making it sway only subtly upon the ocean's surface and with it Genesis could hear the distant call of seagulls flying on deck. The air was dense with the musk of salt and Genesis reached up with his bare hand and brushed it through some of his sweaty auburn locks. It had been a wonderful night and one that left him feeling the ache passion had inflicted upon him last night

Finally he heard a clicking sound of someone picking up on the other end. Mako infused eyes narrowed until the moment he finally heard the voice on the other end. It sent a jolt spiraling madly through his body, his heart skipping a beat as he suddenly sat up in his bed, the blankets shifted over his nude form before plopping his two feet alongside the edge of the bed. There was a shuddered breath as Genesis gripped to the edge of his blanket. He recognized that voice from anywhere. " ....Impossible. " Pulling the phone from his ear he stared at the wallpaper of his phone with him, Angeal, and Sephiroth shoved closely together to fit in the shot. Genesis was smirking in the picture and Angeal was laughing, but Sephiroth just looked confused. Pulling the phone back to his ear, his eyes shifted as if trying to find something to say.

What do you say to an old friend you thought was dead? All this time he had thought he was the only one of them to survive. Was he mistaken? Did this man just share his voice or was he dreaming again? There came a wistful look on his face and soon he took to doing what he had often done in the past, " Infinite in mystery is the gift of the Goddess. We seek it thus and take to the sky. Ripples form on the water's surface, the wandering soul knows no rest. " His words were slow and legato, but he awaited for the voice on the other end to tell him what Act it was: LOVELESS Act I. It felt.. like an appropriate verse to recite.

Emelia tried to keep a tough face always, especially in a situation like this, and though most times she could, the shell was cracking. Going to battle against those aliens, she had expected to lose a few friends. Yet the toll in the end made her cringe as she searched bodies for dog tags. Her heart ached to know that she stood alive by some sort of twisted fate while all her companions lay in a pool of blood, lifeless. Soon their bodies turned to the bright green orbs to join the Lifestream and she felt the pain in her chest grow as she watched them disappear. Tears prickled at her eyes, but she refused to break down in the middle of this barren field, this graveyard for the many brave souls that had lost their fight against the aliens. Wishing there was more she could have done was useless as her friends would not want her to think that way. But it didn't make it easier seeing all the tags dangling from her and Cloud's arm, knowing they would have to return and inform all the families.

It was times like this that made her question whether the loss of so many good men and women were worth fighting to save innocent lives. Half the time the people they were trying to save ended up dying anyways, which only made their job ten times harder. Yet Emelia knew she would never quit the WRO, never give up, no matter what troubles faced her. It didn't keep her from remarking on understanding why Cloud tended to keep to himself. She didn't expect that her words would bring him to brush her bangs from her face and kiss her forehead. Her plain green eyes flicked to him in surprise, before she gave him a half smile. "I almost think it would be a good thing to keep your distance from people, but then sadly I don't think I could. I'm a people person and you should always have your friends around." She stated, touching her upper arm briefly in a moment of self-consciousness before she tossed her head and looked determined. This wasn't going to break her, even if this wasn't the end, she'd fight with all she got and make the loss of her friends worth while.

As Cloud expressed that all they could do now was return to base and see from there, Emelia gave a curt nod as she started back. "I don't feel this over, that is for sure. It feels like it was almost too easy. Like this was just the first wave." She murmured as she glanced up at the same clouds Cloud had before glancing over to him curiously. Jenova wasn't a very familiar name to her, but something in the back of her mind tingled as if it was something she had heard briefly somewhere. Instead of making Cloud waste breathe trying to explain who Jenova was, she gave a stiff nod as they followed the direction of the visible junk of metal that signaled the city in which their base was located. After a while of walking and almost reaching their destination, she gave a playful smile as she glanced over at Cloud. "Guess our date will have to wait a while, depending on how things go." She mused, trying to make things lighthearted after being so serious a while ago.

Weiss left the cabin the next morning feeling like a king. Every muscle in his body sang of the pleasure last night had brought him as he reflected on Genesis's masochistic streak. Or maybe the other was too weak to him that he couldn't help but submit to the pain and pleasure he was willing to give him. This thought made Weiss's smirk grow as he walked down the dock to the nearest railing. With the excited buzz in the air, it was becoming clear that they were reaching Junon Harbor and he peered across the choppy, ocean waves to see a foggy picture of land miles ahead of them. They were probably only an hour or two away from docking and being free of this unsteady contraption. Though last night had raised his spirits, it didn't change Weiss's opinion on their mode of transportation. It seemed some of Genesis's high class standards were brushing off on him for he was getting sick of being around these low life trash that littered this ship.

"Gods, I can't wait until that man and his partner are off this ship. Their attitude is far too pompous and have you heard the way that one guy, with the silver hair, speaks? Such crudeness! I have never heard someone speak with so little consideration to the people around them." Weiss overheard someone saying and looked over his shoulder to see a bunch of ladies forming a small circle speaking to each other. It was like they were trying to whisper to each other, but they were far from succeeding. Weiss snickered as his gaze caught theirs and they quickly gasped and looked away.

"Don't worry ladies, I am eager to be free of this ship myself. After all, the stench of rotten fish is truly making my stomach churn." Weiss remarked in a sickenly sweet voice. It seemed the women understood his hidden meaning and gave him a wide-eyed stare before hurrying away, muttering obscenely to each other about men having no respect for women. Weiss laughed at that as he leaned back against the railing, hoping Genesis didn't linger too long on that phone of his.

Sephiroth didn't know what he was expecting when he picked up the phone. In his eyes, there was no way it would be Genesis calling him back. As far as he knew, the redhead was dead. Just like he and Angeal. But there was a sliver, a sliver of change or even hope, that this was his old friend. If he was brought back to Gaia, free of her poisonous voice, there was a possibility that Genesis had been brought back as well. Perhaps even Angeal, but he felt a hollowness dwell in his chest as he thought of the two closest friends and how he was fooling himself into ridiculous hopes. Yet as that smooth, rich voice filled his ears and quickly become distant, Sephiroth pulled his own PHS away and stared at it. Just as impossible as it was for Genesis to hear his voice, he had not expected it to be his friend on the other line either. There was no way it was truly Genesis. This was a trick, some mine game being played on him once more, another attempt to control him and bend him to some forces will.

Yet no other person would speak the words of LOVELESS so perfectly and passionately like Genesis. The respect the man had for that old tome of poetry was well known, and Sephiroth knew no one could recite it word by word like his friend. "LOVELESS. Act I," he answered in his straightforward voice, though there resounded a hidden emotion as he knew he was conversing with someone he had thought he had lost long ago. The emotion was unspeakable, and Sephiroth sat on the lonely cot staring out the window as some ray of hope blossomed in his chest. There was a reason he was alive, a reason why he was being given this chance to meet with an old colleague again, he just had no idea what. "Genesis." He stated as if it was a game of guessing who was the person on the other line and his name resonated deep within him as he gazed ahead, as if waiting for Genesis to materialize before him.

xxxEver still, shimmering, blazing ribbons of emerald sailed across the dreary gloom that embraced the landscape of pale rock and ivory sands. They burned brightly through the bleak shadows cast by the heavy clouds overhead. Their glittering bodies illuminated the horizon ever still as the sweet harmony of chimes followed their liberated souls back to the planet whence they came. Their songs faded with each life that passed on while new ribbons of light spawned forth from other unliberated bodies to inevitably fade away, the same as the rest. Sadness flickered across Emelia's pale features and Cloud had the trained eye to spot it, even if it was much more subtle. Cloud may have not been a people person, but he knew of the pain she felt and eventually found himself laying a gentle kiss upon her forehead. It was but a small gesture and the only thing the swordsman could even think of doing that may or may not lend his comrade some comfort after this disheartening scenery. War was never easy and neither would it fail at robbing thousands of their lives. They come and go, but they would always return, no matter the enemy. It would continue its onslaught and Emelia would continue to fight it.

At times it was hard to embrace the happiness in front of him when Cloud feared he would be robbed of it again, but as Emelia spoke further those glowing sapphires settled their gaze upon her. Instantly he froze, stunned merely by her ability to remain steadfast and her determination to not allow herself to take up the life of a recluse. Unable to focus on her anymore, he averted his gaze and felt his eyes narrow, " Mmh. " She was stronger than he took her credit for, even stronger than him and something about that emotional strength she harbored reminded him of someone. As Emelia carried on to express her unease of this battle, Cloud turned to stare at the wisps of pyreflies and then to the ominous clouds overhead " You might not be far off. " With that the blond wrapped his other arm to slip the dog tags off his arm and into his pocket where they jingled just a bit less before the pair resumed their trek back to headquarters.

Hours had passed of walking in silence when in the distance Edge made itself visible. At times like these, Cloud had wished he did bring along his motorcycle, but through a crowd of enemies and allies alike it would have been hard to maneuver the vehicle so he had left it back at the WRO headquarters. A glum expression bore on that face until he heard Emelia's light jest. Blush soon rose through his features and sheepishly he rubbed the back of his neck, " Y-yeah, I guess so. " After a pause, he turned his head towards her, " And with how busy Reeve is, I bet it wouldn't be long till your assigned back on active missions.... So... if there isn't a storm. Maybe we... should... have a drink later? ...I know a good place. We probably could both use some after this. I-if you're interested, that is. You don't need to. Just... well.. " Cloud lifted his hand like as though to dismiss his offer, even though he still had it on the board. It was his fumbling that made him feel ridiculous. When it came to socializing Cloud tended to be inept at it, especially when he was actually considering moving on with his life.

XXXXSlouched and sitting along the edge of the bed, Genesis' gaze bore down at the planks of polished timber below his feet. Each passing moment of silence aided his restlessness like as though this phone call alone could help him determine the presence of an old friend. Did Sephiroth not die as the rumors constantly told or was he speaking to the ghost of a dead man? .... or maybe another imposter? Surreal as it was, Genesis heard that familiar voice answer back to him and his heart steadily calmed. There came but a small sigh as Genesis lifted his hand and brushed it through his sweat drenched locks. A weary smile curved the corners of his plush lips, " Heh, you remembered. " He spoke in a soft voice to the phone he held against his ear, a slight fondness tinted his tone as he listened to a faint clashing of waves, gently roaring just outside his window. " Sephiroth... " A twitching movement caught his eye and as he turned his head, he caught the faint sight of his satchel against the dresser jerking around like it contained a drowning fish within. That alien stirred within, it served as a reminder of the course Genesis was undertaking now. Consequently, it was much different than the brash and cruel path that had him bearing his sword against his two most trusted friends.

He was the first of the three to turn his back on them and what happened to the trio after... was anything but pleasant. His envy, jealousy, and rage he had once harbored for Shinra's greatest hero had waned so much over time. Losing Angeal and Sephiroth both took its toll by the heavy burden placed upon the redhead's heart. Now he missed them so much more than held any resentment for Sephiroth's fame and glory and disappointment that Angeal refused to join his cause. Genesis had been so caught up in thinking he was a monster that he had forgotten about those who once cared about him. Had it not been for the company of Weiss, he would probably still be wallowing in that feeling of emptiness. " To think I had thought the fates had claimed you, old friend. I had read reports that you had fallen long ago. Hmph, perhaps it was my own folly to have belief in pieces of paper. You have the devil's luck to hath endure such assaults and still survive~ You are aware that you should have called me years ago. Leaving me to wait this long is just plain cruel. " That effervescent voice came out in just that same velvety smooth tone he was always known for.

Little had he known that out of the three, he was the only one to have escaped the cold clutches of death. Sure he had seen a glimpse of what laid within, nevertheless that pup refused to allow him to die. Genesis was also unaware that the dead were rising back up to rejoin the living and all this was caused by the turmoil of the owner of that limb flopping around on Weiss' dresser just beside him. Slowly he rose to his feet, inclining his head to hold the phone against his shoulder as he picked up his discarded clothes and proceeded to get dressed, knowing Weiss may just burst through that door and tell him to hurry up... maybe. Although his body still ached from the night before, that pain was thrust far back in his mind, now energized not only by the relief of a wonderful night, but now by the sound of a familiar voice that prompted so a menagerie of fond memories.

Despite her determination, Emelia had a bitter feeling that this was only the beginning of a long war. That this was only the first skirmish of many, if it couldn't even be called that with all that bloodshed. Unless they found out the source of what had caused the two Weapon's to attack and destroyed it, Emelia knew they would continue fighting until their enemy was finished or they died trying to. When Cloud agreed, her expression turned grim before she just nodded and tucked away the dog tags before making the long track back to Edge. They traveled in mostly companionable silence, trekking through the harsh lands until in the distance, they saw the rising peaks of metal came into sight. They were almost there and Emelia felt a sense of relief. She couldn't wait to be rejoined with her companions, to make sure they were alright, and make sure Reeve had made it out without any scratches. Though Emelia was sure that was the case since the WRO leader barely joined in the actual fights anymore unless it was absolutely necessary.

Being so close to the base now and feeling the tension still lingering in the air, Emelia couldn't help but jest about their agreed date. It wasn't necessarily an important thing, considering what was going on in their world, but sometimes dates or other normal gatherings tended to raise spirits, gave them a sense of normalcy. It this strange and rough times, a little normalcy was very welcomed. At Cloud's rather shy invitation to a drink, Emelia gave him a cheeky grin as she clasped her hands behind her head and stretched. "A drink later sounds great. I don't know about you, but I could really use a drink after today. And some damn good food too. I'm starved." She reached down and rubbed her belly, sticking out her tongue in a playful gesture, acting as if she would die if she didn't get any food in her. Though after all they had been through, she felt they deserved an off moment to stuff their faces, drink, or even enjoy carnal pleasures, if it would ease their troubled minds.

A few more miles and they were in the midst of Edge's large buildings and highways. Emelia felt like a small weight had been taken off her shoulders as she was close to base, close to being amongst her friends and companions. Though she would have loved to returned to Kalm to check on her parents, right now the WRO needed her. Just like Cloud said, she doubted there would be much down time for them as they would be sent off on several missions to recover and aid, that she was sure of. Turning to Cloud, she flicked her thumb under her nose and cocked her head as she spoke, "At least we are out of the frying pan for a little bit, lets just hope we aren't jumping into the fire, eh?" She smirked before she sauntered off, eager to be back at base, go to her dorm, and shower after a quick rendezvous with the others.

The WRO headquarters was humming with activity when they arrived. WRO infantry men and women greeted them upon entering, cheering for a victory and their safe return. Emelia gave them all smiles and clasped their hands in a companionable fashion, seeing the grim looks deep in each of their eyes. They were all mourning in their own fashion, but to linger on the deaths would only tear them apart, and they all knew that. As Emelia turned, she saw a few of Cloud's friends hurrying towards him. The woman with the long brown hair, Emelia knew as Tifa, greeted him first with a quick hug and a punch to his shoulder. "Thank Shiva, you are alright. You had us all worried, Cloud. What were you doing out there, what took you so long?" Tifa snapped, hands on her waist as she leaned forward inquisitively while the others gave him a little more space.

Emelia noticed this and flashed Cloud a sympathetic look before making the gesture of chugging down a drink and winked at him before ducking into a separate room, seeking to catch up with Reeve. Maybe he had learned more about the fallen alien form that had started this whole mess by now.

When the three women had hurried off, offended by his snide remark, Weiss found himself bored and impatient once more. He could see that they were reaching the harbor, and any minute now they would be docking. The smell of the ocean and the roll of the waves rocking the boat back and forth were making his stomach churn. It was the most foul way of travel, in Weiss's opinion, excluding chocobo riding. Which he still didn't forgive Genesis for making him travel on such a horrid beast. Now he had to wait until Genesis was dressed before he could leave. Though the idea of just leaving the redhead behind was tempting once the boat docked. But he didn't see the point when the wriggling cause of all of this was still in Genesis's cabin. It was the whole reason they were traveling to the Junon Harbor so they could reach Edge and demand Reeve study the hideous thing.

Weiss didn't see why Genesis wanted to even bother speaking on friendly terms with the WRO leader instead of taking his base and forcing him to do it. These were the people that had helped take down his Tsviets, had been the cause of him losing Nero (even though that was more Hojo's doing than theirs), had stopped him from his quest to purify this world. The more he stood out there amongst the pesky humans that could do nothing better than to stare and whisper behind their hands at him, the more irritated with them he got and the more he wanted to unsheathe his gunblades and leave this deck covered in tainted blood. Instead, he just stomped back towards Genesis's cabin. It had been a good ten minutes at least, there was no reason for the poetry-loving ex-SOLDIER to be taking so long. With a sharp kick, he yelled in as the door swung open under the jarring strike. "What the hell is taking you so long?!" He snarled, eyes flashing as he saw the device raised to Genesis's ear and the look of reminisce on his face. Who could Genesis possibly be talking to?

Said person on the other line had caught the fondness in Genesis's tone when he realized it was truly his old friend on the other end. "You've only battered it into my head a thousand times," Sephiroth remarked lightly, a small smile playing at his own lips. Reminiscing on those good old times was a lot better than remembering what had happened after the whole Nibleheim incident. Those memories, though, felt like a lifetime ago and Sephiroth knew those times never would be able to be the same. Even if he and Genesis were to reunite after all these years, he knew it wouldn't be the same. Maybe they would no longer be enemies, as he couldn't sense any hatred or ill-intent from the other ex-SOLDIER, but he had no doubt they would never be on the same level as they were when they were younger. Especially since Angeal was still gone....

As Genesis mentioned the fact of him having fallen, Sephiroth looked down at his hand as if confirming it was truly his own before frowning. "I did die, Gen. I was defeated...." He trailed off as he clenched his hand into a fist briefly before relaxing and sighing. "...It is hard to understand or even believe, but I have been brought back. Given life again but I feel...free. Free of her, more myself." His voice sounded dreamy almost as he spoke, even his gaze growing distant as he stared off into the corner of his room. To be free of her voice inside his head, commanding him to do her bidding, was something he had never imagined having. Heck, he hadn't realized he had changed until he had turned on Shinra and had been fighting against Zack, Cloud, and the others. The puppy...Angeal....he frowned at the memories of them and squeezed the PHS tighter as he asked, "What about Angeal? He still--?" He couldn't bare to say the word, knowing Genesis would understand, and just sat there waiting for the inevitable answer.

xxxEmelia's cheeky grin and the way she walked with her hands casually held behind her head drew Cloud's attention. He fixated a tad on her gestures and the cheery way she spoke. That carefree demeanor and that strength to put it all behind her... it really had him staring, looking almost bewildered. By the time she patted her stomach and stuck out her tongue, Cloud blinked and lifted his hand over his lips, hiding a faint chuckle. His nervousness nearly forgotten with a crack of a smile. " Heh, I'll bare that in mind. You said you tend to have a big appetite right? " He asked as if to make sure they would both satisfy their hunger. Wait, would that count as a date then? Maybe Seventh Heaven wasn't the place to go, but it was just a casual drink and dinner right? For a while he muddled through his options as they continued the rest of the way back, catching sight of that ruined spire and the city just along the edge of crumpled plates and scrap metal. There it was, Edge. The two had arrived in the small city when Emelia turned to him and flicked her thumb beneath her nose, smirking all the while as she addressed him once more.

Within the city, people behaved as if nothing had happened. Each went on with their daily routines while more than a few were huddled outside of electronic shops gazing on the news feed from the WRO's engagement with a massive monster horde that had been heading to Edge. It was just the battlefield Emelia and Cloud were returning from. " Yeah. " He spoke back, almost in a mutter. He was close to saying that it wouldn't be his problem. As much as he was affiliated with the WRO, he wasn't apart of their group and for a reason. He wanted to rest and wouldn't care if Reeve asked him to help in the recovery effort.... well maybe later on into things when he felt more like it. " And it's not like we have much of a choice. " More than likely, he would probably be dragged into it anyway if Tifa had any saying in it. While Emelia strolled toward headquarters, Cloud followed along after her, walking through a traffic of Edge's citizens and the activity only became fever-pitched by the time they entered the walls of the WRO building. Many of the survivors and staff mingled with one another and talked of the battle. Emelia and Cloud arrived much later than the majority of them, but they were still greeted as soon as they walked in with load boisterous celebratory shouts.

War wasn't easy. Loss was heard in the corners of the rooms for those not strong enough to keep a steady face. Others comforted them while some were just thankful for making it out alive. Heavy footsteps alerted the blond haired swordsman and by the time he looked in there direction, he saw his old comrades come to greet him, unable to halt a small smile from seeing they were all fine and well. Tifa led the pack followed shortly after by Barret and Yuffie and immediate Tifa pulled him into a hug and pounded his shoulder, producing a pain-filled wince. His smile had just left his face and a flat expression replaced it, shrugging his pained shoulder mildly, " This n' that. " He began to roll and loosen his shoulder when he suddenly lurched forward with a hard smack against his back.

" Ya think it's funny to be out n' bout like that?! Think you could ave' left us a message or sumthin' before we get worried sick about yo spiky a**! Wha ya think I was gunna tell Marlene if sumthing happened ta ya? " Hissing silently, he shot Barret a glare, but stopped short as he caught Emelia watching him from the corner. That sympathetic look followed by the nonchalant gesture of a drink softened Cloud's features. There was a subtle nod of his head as he watched her leave. " Yo! Spiky-a** hotshot, You listenin'? " Barret turned and noticed the target of Cloud's staring being a blond haired woman walking off to one of the other rooms, " Daam man, get yer head outta the clouds! "

Instantly Cloud stood up and blushed mildly, " Nrgh, Alright. Alright! I'll let you guys know earlier next time. " He spoke and instinctively reached up to scratch the back of his head as if he had been caught redheaded.

XXXXEasy as it would have been to detect Weiss' domineering approach, it was a difficult for Genesis to pick up on it. His sole focus had been on the phone call. Normally Genesis wouldn't have been so fond of reminiscing, but this was much different. Years ago he had turned his back on Sephiroth... and Angeal out of envy and spite, mainly towards the very company he owed his existence. Their lives were shattered thanks to Shinra but as he lingered, a sudden kick burst forth the door, almost buckling at the hinges as it swung open to reveal a most crossed Weiss scowling back at him. With a lift of his hand, Genesis motioned for his companion to wait, furrowing his brows in annoyance at first before smiling yet again, slipping on his tattered shirt then coat. A deep chuckle parted from his lips at Sephiroth's complaint on the other end. " Hm, Perhaps...but it's a masterpiece. I've been doing you a favor, really. " Sitting back down on the side of the bed, he moved to slip on and fasten his boots as a kawing of seagulls sung their songs above the rapture of waves.

A billowing horn of the ship docking rung all across the ships vast halls and loudly into his ears, prompting that satchel nearby to wiggle in turmoil at its harsh cacophony. Its rumble could even be felt through his feet when Genesis finally heard where Sephiroth had been all that time. " You...had been... resurrected? " Puzzled, his eyes shifted from one side to the other as if wondering what it all meant. Was this the work of Minerva? After another pause he reached over to grab the satchel. " So, you had finally broken free of her revolting influence. Had I known how much that would have effected you.. I probably wouldn't have-- " At that time, he just couldn't finish, only sneering to himself in contempt of the past, but he rose to his feet yet again and approached Weiss. As if to try and convince Weiss to practice more patience, he lightly tapped the male's strong shoulder, flashing him a haughty smirk before glancing down at the wooden paneling beneath, his face already turning somber. " No. As far as I know he is still in Minerva's loving embrace... Although I happened across one who have been walking around in his guise. Where are you? I just arrived in Junion Harbor, my destination is the the city that was once known as Midgar. I'm afraid I'm in the middle of a journey of great consequence. Destiny, rather. If you're nearby, perhaps we can discuss it. "

When they entered headquarters and were greeted with cheers and relieved cries that they had both made it back safely, Emelia felt warmth blossom in her chest. It was refreshing to be greeted by familiar faces, by friends that had made it safely out of the battle. Many may have been killed, but plenty had withstood the fight and stood here now and she laughed gratefully with them as she clasped arms with them and hugged others. It was a warm welcoming, one much needed after standing there amongst so many dead, so many loved ones lost to save this planet from utter destruction. Thankfully, she hadn't been alone in the whole ordeal and her gaze flickered across the room at Cloud, seeing the male's friend boisterously greeting him and even berating him for not letting them know sooner that he was alright. She shot him a sympathetic look for being confronted by his adamant friends before making a drinking gesture just before disappearing into the office where she knew Reeve would be waiting.

Emelia missed Cloud's friends immediately interrogating him when they realized what the little exchange between them meant. Tifa straightened up, her hands resting on her hips, as she eyed Cloud sharply. She wasn't pleased that he hadn't thought to call them up or warn them somehow that he was alright. They had gotten back here and thought the worst, but here Cloud returned alongside a woman, alright. What made Tifa curious and perhaps a little jealous and exasperated was how Cloud gazed after the woman, not seeming to listen to them at all. Glancing at Barret, she narrowed her eyes when her gaze returned back to Cloud and waved in front of his face. "And why do I have a feeling you won't remember to do that? And whose that girl?" For a moment, she sounded like a suspicious girlfriend, but she didn't care. Cloud normally didn't take much interest in other people. It had taken them a long time to get the blond to warm up to them, yet this strange blond woman seemed to grab Cloud's attention somehow.

Once she had reported to Reeve her return and laid out all the dogtags of the WRO members they had lost, Emelia left his office with a sigh. It was nice to be back in headquarters, amongst her friends again, but pulling out those tags again and seeing just how many were compiled left a sinking feeling in her gut. There would be plenty more tags that would join those, maybe even hers, and her hand reached up to touch the metal hanging from her neck. She was mortal, a simple foot soldier, and one day she'd be taken down in battle and then one of her friend's would have to play messenger to her parents. It was the one reason she refused to be that person, to go tell the fallen's loved one's that they were no longer around. That they would never visit them, speak to them, or see them ever again. The idea of seeing all those crushed, horrified, and broken faces made her stomach churn. And yet she helped however else she could, to make up for her lack of being able to face the dead's family.

Emelia left Reeve's office to head to her simple pad for a shower and a change. She intended to help recover what they could within the headquarters as well as help the citizens of Edge wherever she could. There was always some way the WRO could help, whether it be as simple as gathering groceries for a disabled innocent or providing protection from one area to the other, they were there. After the mess with the Weapons, Emelia was sure there was plenty of rubble within the city to be cleared and other things to be fixed to get the people's lives back to normal. Could they ever be normal, she thought as she got dressed. Normal seemed like an ancient word, an old age way of thinking that could no longer exist in the world they lived in. All they could do was press on and keep whatever sanity they had left. Even though she had the right to rest the rest of the day if she wished, she was too restless to just sit in her apartment and do nothing.

The next few hours, Emelia ran a few errands for Reeve, headed into the city to take an account of the destruction and the amount of victims. Thankfully, there weren't as many civilian deaths as she had feared. There were more injured than dead and they were already being taken care of. As late afternoon came around, she returned to her apartment to wash up and change into something a little more casual and comfortable for her little date with Cloud. The thought made her smile as she realized she was actually going to share a drink and a meal with Gaia's hero. She decided on a simple blouse with a waist cinch and shorts, boots completed the outfit. Instead of tying up her hair, she let it fall free around her face. Before leaving her apartment, she pulled on a jacket and clipped a small pistol to her belt. One could never be too careful, in her opinion.

Ready for a simple evening away from business and fighting, Emelia sought after Cloud. For a moment, she pondered where she would meet up with the ex-SOLDIER before deciding to just wait in the lobby and see where he sprung out of, or for anyone who might know his location.

Weiss stopped at the door as Genesis brought his finger to his lips as if shushing him, like he was a rude child interrupting a parent's very important phone call. It made him want to be a jerk and continue to snap at the redhead until he was fully dressed and walking out the door. Instead, he just scowled as he leaned back against the doorway and crossed his arms over his chest. Leave it to Genesis to take his sweet time, even though it was his plan to travel this way in order to find the WRO's leader and get them to investigate this strange mass they were carrying with them. Sometimes, Genesis was worse than a woman. If it had been Nero, this task would have been complete by now. His frown only darkened as he thought of his brother, thought of his sacrifice, and the reason he was stupidly following Genesis. They were trying to be heroes, sort of speak, rather than end the impure world as he had once sought to do.

As he listened to Genesis's half of the conversation, Weiss could only gather that his person was obviously a friend of the other's and that he had been 'resurrected'. It didn't make any sense to him, especially as Genesis continued, mentioning one friend who remained dead. If his memory served him correctly, it was that little punk that had thought it smart to impersonate Genesis's friend Angeal. He had remembered how upset and disturbed Genesis had been when he had been confronted by the impostor. If it wasn't that friend, then who else could it be? Weiss gazed at his companion with impatience and intrigue, hating to be left in the dark as if he had been completely forgotten about.

Sephiroth could hear the puzzlement in Genesis's voice as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing. It was reasonable to feel that way, considering normally when one died they stayed dead. He had expected to stay that way after his final defeat, but it seemed there were other plans for him. Whatever they were, he had no clue, but he was hoping that being reunited with Genesis would help him find a new purpose. With Jenova no longer poisoning his mind, he could think more clearly and do as he pleased. Not that there were many options for him to redeem himself after nearly becoming a god and destroying the planet. There would be no warm welcoming, except from Genesis perhaps. "Don't, Genesis. You couldn't have stopped anything." He said before Genesis could even start blaming himself for not doing more to help him. It had been his own doing, his own fault that he had found out that information and freed Jenova, had driven himself insane because of it.

Sephiroth sighed heavily as he pinched the bridge of his nose, knowing deep down just how many he had killed because of her. There were no faces to the ones he killed, there were far too many, but he could remember the Cetra clearly as well as Zack. His heart thudded in his chest as he knew he had let the pup down, let himself down, and even Cloud. The young cadet had looked up to him once and now despised him with every fiber of his being. Should he ever come face to face with Strife again, which he knew he would one day, there would be hostility. No admiration. As Genesis confirmed that Angeal still remained among the Lifestream, Sephiroth raised his head and gazed out the window at the ocean just beyond the window panes. "A guise?" Who would take up Angeal's person like that, who would even have such an ability? Shaking the thought away, he seemed lighter when Genesis remarked his location and smirked. "It seems we were destined to meet then, Rhapsodos. I, too, am in Junon Harbor. I reside in an inn not too far from the port." He said as he got up, walking towards the window to see a ship docked and unloading passengers and cargo, one he presumed Genesis must be on.
