Sly emerged as if from a dream, floating in dark and murky waters. His eyes were all he had control over, as his body floated lifelessly along the water.
Sly continued to bob along in the direction of the gentle current. The water enveloping him often, while he was unable to keep the water out of his open mouth. His lungs feeling lifeless to cough it out.
It was strange to not choke on the water that he had swallowed, his thoughts lucid, he was able to keep his mind focussed on the stars above him.
It wasn't long before the soft calm ripple of water around him began to rise in speed and intensity.
As Sly approached the inevitable waterfall in front of him, he could hear a deafening roar caused by the water. However, very softly he could also hear voices, calling out his name.
He watched as the stars in the sky began to move, taking shapes now. The shapes seemed to be calling out to him.
First the shapes morphed into his sisters, standing together in the sky. Smiling and waving at him. Their voices all a jumble, he couldn't make out what they were saying.
Then they disappeared and morphed into his lover. Her words also indecipherable.
He waited, as his creator stood above him now covering the night sky. Her laugh booming, not saying anything.
Then the stars moved again, morphing into far more familiar figures from his recent past. His friends from the bar. Nira, Tweety, Deej, Shady & Shadow, Blackwing and all her dragons & even Tobi among many others.
They weren't smiling. They weren't waving. They were screaming. Their screams rising above the sound of the water, begging to be heard.
Sly could decipher what they were saying just as they began to morph again.
Sly wouldn't be able to see the final morphing though as the dreaded waterfall had finally arrived. As he hurtled over along with the frighteningly strong current, a voice rang out clear as daylight and sun. A voice he could recognise immediately.
Finally he could make out the words.
Sly please come back. I love you.
Sly's body hit the base of the waterfall, instantly going under, all the way to the bottom as his body crashed solid onto the rocky bed, his body shattering, bones breaking neck snapping, spinal cord ripping away and a boulder gouging a huge fist like crater into his chest.
Sly's eyes flew open, pain administering all through his body instantly. Gasping wildly for air, he awoke his eyes first falling onto dragonfly leaning over him, her eyes smothered with the blood she had let out as tears.
He moved his eyes. It was all he could move. Intense pain gripping his body.
SanguineDragonflye
Dragonfly continued to sit very still, her life-force flowing slowly into Sly.
She hoped it would be enough.
She watched as some of his wounds started to close, minor ones. She wanted to see the more severe wounds start healing. His chest-wound was the most concerning, but she had also broken his neck. When that started healing it would probably put him in a lot more pain, if as she supposed it had broken his spinal cord as well. It was hard to tell what had healed when the injuries were internal.
She watched his eyelids starting to move, and started slightly, thinking he may be conscious... He was dreaming, probably suffering nightmares as she had done. It was little, but it was a good sign.
Her own wounds had stopped healing, some were even starting to reverse the process because she was running out of blood. A gouge above her right eye where his teeth had narrowly missed blinding her, was reopening, among many others.
She could feel him, a dim flicker of his thoughts, but she didn't intrude on his dreams, she just whispered into his mind, trying to rouse him.
Sly... Please come back.
Another thought slipped in before she could stop it.
I love you.
