It's not a redub (although there is a redub), it's a brand new anime series
with a spiffy new (love it or hate it) art style and story. So far its closer to the manga,
much as is the trend is with anime reboots.

Sailor Moon Crystal, known in Japan as Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal
(美少女戦士セーラームーンCrystalクリスタル Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn Kurisutaru?),
is a 2014 original net animation series produced by Toei Animation
and directed by Munehisa Sakai, produced in commemoration of the
20th anniversary of the shōjo manga series Sailor Moon.
Instead of remaking the 1992–97 anime series preceding it,
Toei produced Crystal as a reboot of Sailor Moon
and intends to be a more faithful adaptation of Naoko Takeuchi's original manga.
The series, which is planned for 26 episodes, began streaming worldwide
on Niconico from July 5, 2014, with new episodes being released twice a month.
The first episode had an advanced screening on June 30, 2014 to celebrate Usagi's birthday.

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (美少女戦士セーラームーン) first aired March 7, 1992 in Japan and
was subsequently dubbed into several different languages around the world
within the next few years becoming a global sensation.
The story follows Usagi Tsukino, a fourteen year old middle school girl,
who is suddenly tasked with fighting evil by magically transforming into a soldier.
With its unique combination of the magical girl and sentai genres,
it became extremely popular around the world.
The series explored themes such as love, power, purity, good, evil, feminism, and human emotion.
Because of different a cultural normative than Japan, the dubbed versions would
often edit the content and message of controversial material.
Most of us are familiar with the original English dub done originally by DIC and then picked up by Cloverway.
The English dubbed changed the names, dialogue, and music from the original.
Notably lines outlining the characters' breasts during transformation sequences
were erased as well as the homosexual relationships between characters.
Luckily it is currently being redubbed with the original content in tact by Viz,
and is available on hulu along with a rereleased subbed version.
The dubbed episodes are only available streaming for a limited time
as they are being released on DVD and Bluray.
The series deviated somewhat from Naoko Takeuchi's original work in terms of plot and characters,
but the original creator did have a hand in some of the anime production.
She contributed lyrics for several songs used throughout the series;
however, she was reportedly unhappy with changes made in the Stars arc.
The series had an impact that was far reaching, influencing not only future anime
but a trend in female empowerment in media globally. It's been the subject for
many articles and opinion pieces over the years,
analyzing why it has meant so much to so many different people around the world.
The manga is the source material for the entire
metaseries of Sailor Moon. After the success of Sailor V,
Naoko Takeuchi went on to expand the story to what we know and love.
Read on for a brief insight into the printed series!
Sailor Moon manga refers to the original incarnation of Sailor Moon, which was written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi,
and published in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine between 1992 and 1997.
The first edition consisted of 18 volumes covering 52 acts.
However, Volume 11 contained short stories that did not follow the main storyline.
Beginning in 2003, the series was re-released in Japan in a new format known
as the "renewal edition" or "shinshouban" (新装版; newly bound edition).
This new edition had new cover art and title logo, as well as slight corrections to dialogue
and the artwork in some panels. An English translated version was produced by TokyoPop
soon after the first Japanese edition, and a second edition version based
on the shinshouban edition was released by Kodansha Comics USA in 2011.
For the 20th anniversary of the manga there was another re-release, this one called the "complete edition" or "kanzenban" (完全版).
This version again had new cover art, and the inside pages were digitally remastered,
with color restored to pages that had been in color in the original Nakayoshi run,
but not the subsequent volume releases. The kanzenban edition was released in 10 volumes,
plus two additional volumes including the Codename: Sailor V storyline.
As yet there has been no announcement for an English-language release of this edition.

It was three little words that my head spin. They tumbled from her lips so suddenly; I think we were both shocked. Maybe in the morning we’ll both regret that they were said, or we’ll forget all about it.
I’m not sure if she really meant it. For all I know she knew exactly what she was saying. On the other hand, she could have said them in the heat of the moment, not truly thinking at all.
It’s funny really, what power words have over people. They can make you laugh, cry, feel pain or sadness. We say things without thinking, not realizing how someone will react. We also say thing on purpose, hoping to get a certain reaction.
I don’t know why she said those words right then. She could have said anything else, and it would’ve turned out different. Three small words that changed something between us and yet nothing changed at all. One thing I did know for sure, I wouldn’t remember that she had said that when she was angry at me.
“I hate you,” she had yelled and ran down the hallway to the guest room she was staying in, slamming the door shut behind her.
Well, maybe telling my future daughter she couldn’t have any dessert was a bad idea. Then again, when there’s only enough of my favorite ice cream left for one bowl, it’s worth having her angry at me for one night. I’ll just have to plan on going food shopping tomorrow to make it up to her. Tonight though, this bowl of chocolate ice cream belongs to me.

Princess Small Lady Serenity winced as she heard the Guardian of Time yell. It wasn't her intentions to get in trouble, after all she had seen both of her parents pull pranks on each other and still be together.
The pink haired girl had forgotten to factor in the importance of the gold key she held in her hand though. It was similar to the one she had used to go to the past, for her senshi training, however the central stone on this key was a ruby red, and not pink. Little did she know that the stones were different for a very good reason.
Sailor Pluto froze and took a deep breath to calm herself. 'That's no way for the Guardian of Time to act,' she thought as she closed her eyes to focus. At least the time key that had gone missing wasn't able to cause too much chaos. If anyone tried to use it, they would be in for one surprise that they would never forget...and she would be able to find them the moment they even attempted to use the key.
It was silly of her to keep hold of the key in the first place. Something like that should had been destroyed, but she held onto it more for the memories it kept locked away than for an actual purpose. Her garnet eyes opened, a look of determination on her face.
There were only so many people that could enter her area, and even fewer still that could get away with one of her keys without being detected right away. After all, how hard could it be to find one small pink haired princess in a crystal castle?
“Chibusa, you better have a good reason for hiding here instead of going to your lessons,” King Endymion murmured softly to his daughter.
“Papa, please don't tell! Puu's already mad enough at me,” the young girl begged from her hiding place behind the throne. “It was only supposed to be a joke, I didn't know she would get really mad.”
The king frowned. “Chibiusa, were you the one that took Pluto's time key?”
The princess knew that tone in her father's voice. He wasn't happy with her.
Before she could speak, she heard the telltale clicks of senshi boots on the tiled floor. Chibiusa pulled her knees closer to her chest, hoping her father wouldn't give her hiding spot away.
“King Endymion, please pardon the intrusion. I was wondering if you've seen Small Lady this morning.”
“No, I haven't seen her this morning. Let me guess, she's skipping her lessons again?” The king chuckled.
Pluto sighed. “In fact, she is. I was hoping she would be here with you.”
“If I see her, Pluto, I'll let you know. I'm sure she'll show up for her lessons eventually.”
Pluto sighed. “It's the eventually part that I'm worried about.”
Chibiusa listened closely as Pluto's footsteps faded away and the door closed.
There was a moment of silence between the two before the king spoke. “Chibiusa, I will not lie to her. I haven't seen you yet, and if I do I will tell Pluto where you are. Do you understand?”
“Yes.” The little girl squeaked out, and then slid along the wall behind her father to exit out a side door.
It went like that all day. So long as she hid quietly around any other senshi, and even her mother Neo Queen Serenity, Chibiusa was able to avoid Sailor Pluto. The princess knew that her little prank would have to end soon. There was no way she could convince everyone to hide her from Pluto's wrath a second time in one day.
She was left with two options. She could either turn herself over to Sailor Pluto, or attempt to use the key she gripped in her hand. Either way she knew she was going to be in trouble. She debated over the pros and cons, and then nodded confidently in her decision.
Raising her hand up, she called out and was enveloped in a pink flash of light.
“Do you think she's okay?” A soft voice asked.
Chibiusa moaned and clutched her aching head.
“See, as I said before, she's fine. Anyone would be knocked out by how much power that key lets out.” Another voice, this one more familiar to the princess than the first one.
Someone placed a cool cloth over her forehead, then stroked back her hair. “Chibiusa? Won't you open your eyes?” The first voice asked.
Blinking slowly, red eyes opened to meet dark purple ones. It was only after they held a moment that the princess took in the should length black hair and the purple gem in the tiara. There was only one senshi that would call her Chibiusa.
“HOTARU!” The young girl shouted, throwing her arms around Sailor Saturn.
Saturn smiled and hugged the princess back. “Hello, Chibiusa.”
Chibusa had so many questions for her long absent friend, but only was able to get out one clearly as she started asking them without pausing. “Why are you here?”
“Because you took one of my time keys.” Pluto spoke from behind the pair.
Sailor Saturn took a step away to stand beside Pluto and nodded. “The key you took summoned me here. Michiru-mama and Haruka-papa thought it would be best if Pluto held onto a key that could bring me here just in case we're needed here in Crystal Tokyo.”
Chibiusa looked between the two frowning senshi then looked down, blushing. “Sorry. I didn't know that I would mess anything up just by taking a key. I thought it was like the last one I had. It would just bring me to the Time Gate.”

“Sorry.” The girl mumbled again.
“Pluto, since I'm here for the first time in a long time...is it okay if I stay and play with Chibiusa for a bit?” Saturn asked.
The Guardian of Time nodded. “I don't see why you can't. Just stay out of trouble.”
A smile lit up the princess' face. “Thanks Puu! Come on, I know just what we can do,” she cheered and pulled a startled looking Saturn behind her into the castle.
“Oh, I hope they don't go anywhere near the kitchens. Makoto said she was going to be cooking today.” Before she had even taken a step, she heard an outraged cry and the sound of metal banging. Sighing, she started towards the kitchens. “I really hate knowing the future sometimes.”
