I hope they wake up soon, How do you even get the items?

From what I've read, when the dragon wakes up and attacks, it will do so by rolling a dice. You roll the same type of dice that the dragon rolls. When someone gets the same number as the dragon, the dragon is defeated and everyone who rolled a dice (whether or not they got the same number) will receive an item.

cool. Does that mean that you can't get the items from the already slain ones? or will those dragons be revived somehow?

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'm 99% sure that the answer to both questions is no. I'm sure that the items will be granted for completing tasks. So don't worry about the old dragons, as I doubt that you missed anything.
