it's neither or.
the people, at least from my knowledge, who have had the 2.6 and downloaded 2.8 have disliked 2.8
i know a person who even went back to 2.6 because they disliked the recent one so much.
but i suggest people who've yet to download to use 2.8 because it's not like it'll matter to you guys ^^

Gimp 2.8 is very slow for me
But that's probably because I have more than a thousand brushes
However, the fact that I am able to rotate brushes is a huge plus
And the single window setting ain't half bad neither 8D
I don't know all the other technical stuff
But I bet it's also good o uo)d
[/shot for bad grammar]

Obsessive Consumer

i can rotate brushes anyways, with 2.6 XD
might be harder, but i can still do it. so it's not worth it for that.

I has a question.
It's probably a very simple fix that I am over looking.
I have a black and white image that I'm trying to add color to.
The problem is that if I try and add a color I end up with a shade of grey instead of the color I chose.
I've currently tried blue (the color that I wanted to add) and then a bright pink and yellow to see if it was only that color I chose.
I opened a new window with just a blank canvas and tried coloring on it and the colors come through but when I go back to the image I get a grey scale again. :c
This even happens if I try and add colored text. The text comes out grey as well.
Is there something I need to click or something to get it out of a grey scale?

Never mind I figured it out.
Like I thought it was something simple. xD

Once again, the major under the hood difference between Gimp 2.6 and 2.8 is that the graphics core is being changed transitionally. When it hits the next stable release it will have a new library (GEGL) completely integrated. This is a big deal.

Gimp 2.8 Release notes (Changes)
Gimp 2.10 to include GEGL

Sounds like Gimp 2.10's gonna be the beez kneez
We'll see what happens when it's released and then decide which one is better between 2.6, 2.8, and 2.10

I'm just hoping it gets here quicker than 2.8 did.

No 2.10 will be a while, if you haven't used 2.6, you would be better off getting 2.8. And some weirdos use it. Like me.

Obsessive Consumer

i'd obviously use 2.10 but i'm good with 2.6 since there isn't a big difference, that i've noticed, with 2.8 and 2.6 so i find it unnecessary, especially re-downloading brushes and risk losing them.

Soul, you can simply copy and paste 2.6 brushes into 2.8 files
That's what I did when I wasn't sure that my brushes would be saved when I reinstalled 2.8
I put them in my old 2.6 folders
Then put them back when the download was finished
Or you can just copy and paste your brushes into several other folders so you'll have backup if you lose the originals

And I think it'll be like a year or two since 2.8 was released this year
                                    I also use 2.8 o uo)d
But I am not a weirdo
                                    I am, however, a pixel

Obsessive Consumer

do you use a mac?
because i'm afraid it might not transfer the way i wish.

and, i'm too lazy .w.
i also prefer 2.6, like i've previously stated.
therefore, no reason for me to go to 2.8 when i'm content <3

It won't let me delete the background so that it's transparent . How can I do this without the risk of deleting part of my image ?
