I just love it when I see a "yaoi" fan who doesn't even know the difference between real yaoi and slash pairings

I really don't understand how a dedicated fan of something can't be buggered to get their terminology correct when a casual fan of the stuff like me knows the difference between slash, shonen-ai, Boy's Love (yes, shonen-ai and BL are two different things), yaoi, tanbi, gei-comi/bara, and homoerotic stuff that isn't actually from one of the genres that focus on male/male pairings. you'd think if a casual fan of the homoerotic spectrum of anime and manga could get that stuff down a more dedicated fan of it would find it a rather easy task.
Oh lord, yes. As an avid fan of BL with a lot of slash pairings that are pretty high on the 'do like' list, it does slightly rustle my proverbial jimmies when people throw terms all around because 'everyone understands it anyway so why bother'. Quite like using 'u' for 'you' in that aspect.
I can't stand 99% of the yaoi series out there simply because most of it is a pure insult towards homosexuality, though I don't think you can blame pornography too much for laying it low on emotions for the sake of throwing more sex in there, yet I get thrown in with the fangirls because I love pairings that happen to be between two men.
neutral Considering the majority of yaoi fans I've encountered seem fairly fond of fetishising homosexuality or approving rape as long as it's with two hot guys, that's... not too much of a positive thing to me.
to be fair, most yaoi is never intended to be realistic in the least and it could be said most yaoi pretty much is to homosexual romance what Twilight is to het romance, especially when you consider both are aimed at straight females who are looking for a "hawt" escapist romance and usually lack the mental and emotional maturity to realize just how unrealistic it is and how squicky some of what goes on in them actually is. the overfestishing among "yaoi" fans is admittedly an issue tho. it does make most of the fandom look rather unfavorably.
outside of that one of my big issues with the "yaoi" fandom is the rampant ignorance of it. the grater part of the most vocal section of the "yaoi" fandom never even bothers to actually learn anything about it or get their terminology correct. most couldn't accurately tell you what yaoi actually means and a good part also thinks it just means "gay" or something similar. they don't even realize that shonen-ai is a very specific genre that was only active for two decades and is also a term that relates to real life pederasty - they think it just means "yaoi without the porn." and when someone tries to give out some info or teach a new fan a bit about it they start getting branded an elitist and/or know-it-all and told it doesn't matter what they know about it because all that matters is the ******** or the kawaii gay snuggles (to paraphrase things). even without getting into the fact we have a bunch of little fangirls who think they know how homosexual sex works just from over romanticised unrealistic fiction written mostly by straight women and for straight women it's one of the most willfully ignorant and unknowledgeable fandoms I've had the pleasure of interacting with.
outside of the small number of those who actually know their stuff I've had the pleasure of meeting, anyway.
