Darcy wandered through the hallways checking this way and that for a glimpse of the pale blonde hair he sought out. With each passing room that did not hold Annabelle inside, the mad man grew only more frustrated. The asylum couldn't be that big dammit. She was here somewhere and he would find her, he just thought it would have been a lot sooner. He silently cursed the White Rabbit for distracting him for even a second. That blasted girl who tried to trick him into thinking that she could have been his Alice. No, she was nothing but a silly little late rabbit.

He gritted his teeth together as he continued his search. He was just about to look in a room when he was suddenly plunged into a deep darkness. He braced himself up against the wall as his vision took its time adjusting to the new lack of light. His first thought was that the storm had knocked out the power. Then other thoughts rushed into his mind. The killer...perhaps this was his doing. Darcy shuddered as he thought and then murmured the word, "Alice." Using the wall as a guide, he continued on his search using his limited vision and the occasional flash of lightning to avoid obstacles as well as peek inside the rooms to find her.

A few moments later and finally! There curled up in her bed with the covers pulled right up to her face sat Alice. An intense feeling of satisfaction coursed through his body and he could have done a silly dance at his victory. However now was not the time for silliness. The Hatter quickly went to work on the door handle. He shoved the make-shift lock pick he had made and began to twist and turn it hoping to hear a click. Once he heard the click he put his hand on the doorknob to twist it open which it did easily. Just as he made to push the door open, he stopped. The sound of clicking boots on the floor. Close...but because of the terrible acoustics he could not determine where exactly they were coming from. Panic set in and he pushed the door open only to quickly close it behind him as silently as possible. He glanced out the window to check to see if someone was coming when he heard a noise behind him.

Darcy turned around and there she sat. "Hello Alice. Please if you might humour me for a moment by remaining silent. I'm only here to share in a cup of tea."

Mira blinked as the girl seethed in anger before her. Although the ill will was not directed toward her, oh no, that could never happen. But when she made mention of her intent to kill a certain "him", Mira knew right away who her albino friend was speaking of. Her eyes narrowed as she nearly hissed in response. "Oh. Him." Mira knew very well of the history between Darcy and Elise. Apparently the boy had once claimed Elise as his Alice, but after a time he discarded her to find a new Alice as he was accustomed to doing. Darcy's presence was never an easy experience with the girl. It nearly always seemed to trigger a response from her, either sending her down one of her major depressive states, or into a murderous rage. Mira had never liked the Hatter since the beginning. It wasn't the usual dislike which she shared with all the other patients. No...the Hatter had slighted her upon their very first meeting.

She had returned from solitude not but a couple weeks ago. The word of her violent encounter with the two patients in the gardens had spread like wildfire through out the asylum. Many of the other patients tried their best to keep away from her, almost as if they would be the next ones to end up in the hospital. However, some of the braver patients sought to test her. She had gotten into a few scrapes here and there, but it was nothing more than to prove her dominance. The patients had tried her patience, and she quickly put them in their place.

She was sitting with Elise in the lounge when he walked in. She noticed how her friend seemed to almost immediately become immensely sullen at the very sight of him. Mira asked what was wrong, but the girl had suddenly stood from her spot and screamed at the boy before she fled the lounge and screamed down the hallway. She tried to comprehend what had just happened, and when her eyes landed on the attractive male, she scowled at him. She had heard about the one they called Mad Hatter, a boy who was deeply obsessed with the Alice in Wonderland books. He had the habit of floating from female to female in search of his one true "Alice". She heard that Elise had once held that title not too long ago, before he left her and was soon engaging with his next "Alice". Her eyes narrowed as she simply turned her back to him and continued on with her business. How anyone could be so foolish enough to become so distorted from reality was beyond her. Yes, she was well aware of the mental challenges that most of the people in here faced. But that was no excuse for their behavior. Even when the doctors tried to diagnose her with some ridiculous personality disorder, she took it as a slight. Her actions did not need to be justified by some disease. What she did was for the good of everyone. Who the hell else was supposed to knock the weak and depraved back to the ground where they belonged?

Her muscles suddenly tensed when she felt someone's finger on the back of her shoulder. She abruptly stood from her spot and glared at the boy who had the audacity to touch her. Darcy only returned the gaze with cold eyes. "That heart..." his voice would have been a thing to marvel at, much like her own. Only...this time it made her feel disgusted to the core. She realized that he was speaking of the heart shaped scar on the back of her shoulder. Her scrubs had been torn in a previous fight not too long ago, and the facility was taking their sweet time in getting her a new pair. The shirt was ripped just enough to bare her pale shoulders, but her long raven hair veiled her skin well enough. Mira was not amused with the Hatter's antics. He continued to stare at her with those cold eyes, and the more he stared, the more she could feel her anger rising. "The Queen of Hearts." he proclaimed, loud enough for the entire lounge to hear. He dramatically gestured toward Mira and closed the distance between them as he whispered in her ear. "A royal b***h...you will never be my Alice."

Mira didn't respond. In fact, she didn't do anything. She stared blankly at the boy for perhaps the longest and most uncomfortable minutes of anyone's who was watching life. Finally, the silence was broken when she simply reached over to the table and picked up the pair of scissors which was placed there for the purpose of arts and crafts. Darcy didn't even have time to move as the blade cut through the air and sliced the flesh of his cheek. His reaction would've been satisfying if only he wasn't so repulsive to her. He screamed and thrashed and cursed her for mutilating his "beautiful" skin. It was hardly deep enough to be called a scratch....at least...that's was her rationalization. He almost seemed to relish in the fact that the orderlies were trying to settle him and calm him down. Meanwhile, Mira was rather forcefully grasped by both arms and she was dragged back off to solitude for another few days.

She gently took Elise's hand in both of hers and tried to calm her from her murderous state. "Come now love. That filth is not even worth soiling the floor with his blood." Her voice purred in the darkness as she looked into Elise's pink eyes. "You need not to waste your precious time on him. Let the killer take him out." Almost as if on cue, the dimly flickering lights completely switched off, and they were plunged into an even deeper darkness than before. Mira felt her uneasiness suddenly return. But it wasn't as bad as before. She had Elise with her. And together, they could easily taken down one killer. Her hazel eyes glanced around them in the darkness before she tried to refocus her attention back on her friend. "Come love, why don't we return to your room and forget that despicable man?" Somewhere in the darkness....she could faintly hear the clicking of boots.

It had been a while since her little scare with the person outside her room. Eventually, he mind calmed and she guessed it must have been a nurse on their rounds. When she had figured that out her breathing began to come normally again. Slowly, she shifted on the floor. Her joints had grown stiff from the pressure of stress. "I'm fine," she told herself out loud as she shook out an arm. She switched Charlie to her other hand before shaking that one out too. Moving to her knees, she used the wall in the dark to help her stand so she could shake the tingling pain from her legs as well. "I was just being silly." Yes. That was it. A nurse. Nothing more.

An instant after the words left her mouth the already dim light of the hallway flicked out sharply. "It's just the thunderstorm," she told herself but hugged her stuffed bunny tighter to her chest. She never liked the dark. Bad things happened in the dark. Sure, they happened in the light too, but there was something more ominous about the darkness. Black enough to swallow her whole and she would disappear forever from the world. Not a sound. Not a trace. "Stop it, Anabelle," she chided herself for the dark turn of her thoughts.

She wasn't going to let her second night in this place be filled with such thoughts. No. Instead, she decided she would crawl under her covers and think sweet thoughts. So that's what she did. Leaving the shoes this place had given her on, she crawled onto her bed and slid under the scratchy covers, trying to ignore the itch against her bare flesh. Small wiggles moved her back so her back was against the wall. With Charlie resting against her beating heart she pulled the sheet up to her chin and curled into a ball. Not because she was scared, per se. That was how she usually slept; in a loose ball. Her eyes were just drifting closed when she heard the doorknob jiggling. Her eyes flashed back open and her once calm heartbeat was going a mile a minute again. She pulled ever tighter into a ball and pulled the covers over her head, reverting back to a childlike state. Only children and idiots thought pulling a blanket over their head would save them from anything but that didn't really matter to her now. She was going to be murdered! The figure she had seen was no nurse. It was the murderer and he or she was back to finish her off. Why her?! With a scared squeak, she waited to be chopped to bits.

She didn't hear the door open but she did hear the click when it closed again behind whoever was here to kill her. And then she heard Darcy's voice--The Hatter, as he preferred--and for a split second she thought maybe he was the killer and everyone was right. Something in his voice changed her mind though. Was that fear she faintly heard? Pulling the white sheet away from her face she moved to a sitting position and stared in the direction of the Hatter. Her eyes may have been twenty-twenty but that still didn't mean she could see in this utter blackness.

Remaining silent was one of her specialties. Crossing her legs the way a child would on her bed, she leaned against the wall. A pool of blankets had formed in her lap. Charlie sitting nicely on the pile. Anabelle kept a grip on one of his soft paws as she waited to find out why Hatter was here and why on earth he had told her to be quiet. A nurse, maybe? Or a darker entity; the killer? She didn't like that idea one bit. Nor did she like being trapped in a small room with only one exit. At least she had someone between her and the door, right? Like it mattered. If the killer came in, the both of them would die.

A favor? Jack's interest peaked completely. This could be seen with how quickly he sat up. Even his expression lightened. He did enjoy seeing McLean nervously try to persuade him to join. The offer of any request being granted was too good for him to pass. The eagerness of finding what type of trouble he could send his friend into clouded his once clear mind. All he had to do was go to the crime scene. The violent part of him grew in excitement. What if they ran into the murderer? Jack would be able to have a chance at killing that person. He would be regarded as a hero in the Sanatorium. More importantly, he would kill someone who seemed to flaunt their power. All his previous thoughts of facing the killer rushed back into his mind. A wide smirk crossed his lips. He stared at McLean for a moment, a certain hunger in his eyes.

Jack jumped out of his bed and walked over to his friend. The man stood close to him, the right side of his chest almost touching the others left. His voice was cold, monotone, “It's a deal.” The blue gaze that had stared in front of him as he spoke, he shifted to McLean. They were threatening. This promise of a favor would be held or else there would be consequences. His gaze may have given this message, if seen. In a quick moment, his expression did an 180. Jack smiled brightly and patted his friend's chest. The man opened the door and gestured out to the hall for him to lead.

“We are friends after all.”
