        Blue Pulsar

In 2385, mankind finally mastered faster than light (FTL) travel and joined entered onto the scene of their galactic neighborhood. Races far more advanced than humanity took notice and after many years of struggle, wars both of words and blood, were invited to join the ranks of the galactic council. Humanity entered into the Galactic Alliance with aplomb and eagerly set about joining Alliance military and establishing colonies of their own alongside their neighbor races.

Little did they know that a darker force within the galaxy was working from the shadows to indoctrinate and absorb all into a unified autocracy of cybernetic monstrosities. Elesh Norn: queen of the Machine Autocracy has systematically begun taking over star systems and absorbing their inhabitants into her hive mind legion of cybernetically enhanced soldiers. The Alliance has tried to stop her on numerous occasions, and for the time being managed to push her back to the farthest reaches of deep space. In an attempt to maintain a sense or order and peace throughout the galaxy in the wake of Elesh Norn's siege of terror, the Galactic Alliance instated a police force known as F.I.P.A- the Federation of Interstellar Peacekeeping Agents.

The year is currently 3852 (by Earth calendar standards) and threats of Elesh Norn’s reappearance have been the words on everyone’s ears. A young captain by the name of Orrin Phaeris and his strange prototype ship the Blue Pulsar has spent the past two years collecting a rag-tag group of misfits with hopes of unlocking the secret to one of the greatest mysteries of the universe: an ancient relic known as the Viashino Rove.

F.I.P.A. Protocol

1-) Adhere to the Gaia ToS. I feel like this should be common knowledge by now.

2-) Romance (even cross species romance) is a thing in this brave new world of exploration, but anything beyond a PG-13 level is not acceptable. Should the "need" (and I use that term loosely) arise where you feel it absolutely imperative, then take it off Gaia and leave it out of the forum. Remember: Big Brother is always watching.

3-) Let's all be mature here: no auto-hitting, auto-dodging, god modding or other bullshit shenanigans. No one is infallible- which means that they are going to fire off a dud shot once in a while and they're going to get hit.

4-) PM me your profile and wait to post until I give it my approval. I feel like I shouldn't have to say this, but there have been a few occasions where this has been the case and have earned my ire. When you PM it to me, send it along with "Reporting for duty Captain." in the subject line.

5-) You will be playing as a crew member of the Blue Pulsar. Any sort of interactions with an NPC not relevant to the overall story such as bartenders, random civilians, and other minor characters are totally up to your control (just keep it tame- i.e: don't go flamethrowering a whole food court full of people, there will be consequences). Anything involving a major NPC should be run past me first to make sure it's not totally nuts.

6-) This being a semi-lit RP I'm expecting at least 2 paragraphs per post. I know sometimes a situation arises where it's not really feasible (such as when you're in the middle of a conversation with another player) but try to stick to it. If you do have to short post, try to leave it with enough content for the others to react to.

7-) There is no magic, only psionics. Psionics are loosely defined as: "the practice, study, or psychic ability of using the mind to induce paranormal phenomena." Examples include telepathy, empathy, and telekinesis (including it's sub branches pyro, electro and cryo). The act of using psionics takes a heavy strain on the user as it literally draws upon brain power alone to enact. Telepathy and empathy are cool and all, but once you start using it to cheese out of combat or to puppet NPC's and players that's where I draw the line. Try and keep it tame, and don't have a full out cyber armor wearing, bazooka toting, plasma saber swinging, telekinetic warrior- because that's just overkill (and will be denied entry into the RP). Other forms of psionics are encouraged, but of course are subject to approval.

Races of the Milky Way
Since humankind's discovery of the transluminant travel, several species of alien have been encountered. Below are the 6 most common races that you'll find across the galaxy, but other races are possible as well.

NOTE: If I see a single Space Marine or anything resembling a Jedi they will be denied.

Humans
Humans are the original natives of the planet Earth. They come in all manner of shapes and sizes, ranging the spectrum of races normally found back on Terra Firma. They are a highly versatile race, meaning that they are able to fill almost any niche that they need to fill in. Some are naturally psionic, although their prowess for it still pales in comparison with some of the other races. At this present point in time over 70% of the human population was either born on another planet or in a space colony, most of whom have never seen Earth.

Kunari
The Kunari are one of the most advanced races in the Milky Way, second perhaps only to the Sintari. The "space elves" as they have been dubbed by humans, are a proud and ancient race descended from the simian felines that once prowled the forests of their native world of Elmarath. As their nickname implies, they are humanoid in appearance, resembling the tall and fair elves of human myth, save that they are possessing of catlike eyes and sharper canine teeth. Similar to humans, Elmarath's diverse climate caused the Kunari to splinter into several subspecies. Generally, Kunari from desert areas (or have ancestry therein) are of a ashen to dark gray color, while those of icy climates tend to be whitish-blue. Those of tropical zones often come in a rich plum hue and Kunari from temperate environments are often a pale peach-cream.

As a race, the Kunari are actively psionic; every member of the race has some degree of psychic ability, but only a fraction of the population are trained to use it for combat. The rest use it domestically, which shows in their technology, often allowing its users to interface psychically to things like phones, computers, and even ovens. This is thanks to a crystalline substance found in Elmarath's crust (and that of its moons) that reacts to psychic energy. Depending on their cut, these crystals can store and-or augment psychic energy. This makes them invaluable, especially to their military, which uses them extensively.

Myari
Native to the frigid planet of Demartia, the Myari are a race of mammalian humanoids that stand just short of 5 feet tall with large ears and tails. Most notable of the Myari is their resemblance to large predatory cats crossbred with squirrels of Earth. Their whole bodies are covered with a fine layer of fur in colors ranging from pure white to pale blue and in some rare cases shades of green, with the fur being thicker on the head, neck and tail. Each individual member of the species have unique stripes and whorls that no other member of their species share.

Myari are highly accustomed to the normally uninhabitable temperatures of Demartia, able to withstand temperatures as low as -100 degrees Centigrade (-148F). As a result: any Myari traveling off world must wear a special coolant suit to prevent them from fatally overheating. They are a highly nomadic society; constantly moving across the surface of the planet to avoid the truly frigid winters where the temperature can drop down as low as -300C (-508F). By using their sharp retractable claws, Myari are adept climbers and diggers- as such many of their permanent cities are located underground. They are fierce warriors, and as per the ancient religious edicts passed down from one tribe shaman to another they still "grow" their weapons out of the mineral rich crystals that dwell underneath the perpetually frozen surface of the planet.

Selveren
Selveren are a barbaristic race of reptilian warriors who hail from the windswept planet of Eorlafar. Their anatomy is similar to that of anoles of Earth: their bones are segmented and flexible which allows them to squeeze into tight crevices (the record thus far is 15cm (6in). Their skin is covered with a very fine layer of tiny scales that are riddled with chromatophores which allow them to nearly perfectly mimic the textures and colors of their surroundings. Similarly their hands and feet are coated with microscopic fibers that allow them to climb and stick to any surface on a near molecular level.

The overall society of the Selveren is one of tightly knit clans of warriors who live together and worship a singled deity: one who's name translates in the human tongue to "The Serpent Who's Fang Brings Forth the Venom of Life". They are glory seekers rarely living past the age of 40. Their unique physiology makes them highly adept at stealthy roles and a Selveren spy often costs nearly quadruple the amount of a spy of one of the other races.

Sintari
The Sintari are a race of cephalopods who hail from an aqueous planet known as Desch. Resembling a strange cross between a human and a squid, the Sintari have humanoid faces with large eyes, no nose and a small lipless mouth with a hard crushing beak concealed within. They sport two sets of long segmented arms from their shoulders, and a small cluster of 6-10 tentacles at the waist. On land, they are generally fairly clumsy without the aid of mechanical transportation while in the water they are graceful predators. While they do not need water to survive in the same way standard sea creatures do, they will ultimately begin to dehydrate unless properly moisturized.

As a whole, the Sintari race are obsessed with finding the "God Particle"- the hypothetical particle that sparked the creation of the universe. Their technology is second to none to any of the others in the galaxy- particularly in their advances in medical technology. Specifically: their understanding of biology has allowed them to force their own "evolution" in that they are a highly adaptable race and often have a surgical procedure up their sleeve for just about any situation. Recent advances in their research allow them to analyze and repair objects on an atomic level in a process similar to the mythical process of alchemy.

Krin
The Krin are a mysterious and relatively young race of artificial humans. Their internal structure is composed of highly dense but lightweight composite metal skeletal systems, artificially grown fully functional organs, all wrapped up in a synthetic bio-mesh skin weave that acts and functions nearly identically to real skin. Each Krin is preprogramed with a growth algorithm that "ages" the individual over the course of 16 years; starting off with the appearance of a small human child and ultimately progressing into a full sized adult. Upon their "deaths", they migrate back to their home world where they upload their memories and experiences to a central hub before wiped clean and rebuilt with different parts.

Their entire society is built on the principles of observation, functionality and enlightenment. The Krin believe that a proper response can only be made through proper observation and are naturally keen observers with a penchant for study and collection. Their actions and demeanors are usually without flourish or excess preferring that they take the most direct route possible to achieve their desired goal. Their principle of enlightenment has much to do with a sense of personal growth as well as spiritual connections; the Krin are highly fond of their origins and often spend time meditating on their own identities via their connection with others and the universe.

The Ship

The Blue Pulsar is a hybrid ship built from an amalgamation of the various racial technologies; it was meant to serve as a "shining beacon of peace and prosperity across the universe". Unfortunately the project was shut down before it was fully completed and was shipped off to be dismantled. Right around that time it's rumored the Captain Orrin Phaeris managed to get his hands on it, gathered up a small crew of misfits from around the galaxy, and completed the ship for his own personal use. That is, of course, if you're prone to believing rumors.

User Image

The Blue Pulsar features a silent core running drive based on experimental Kunari technology- the strange reactor runs almost entirely silent and leave virtually no energy signature as it operates. The reactor itself is a small fusion core that spins in place and emits energy castoffs in two very distinct plasma jets; not entirely unlike an actual pulsar star. It's weapons systems are state of the art Myari oscillating laser cannons ranging in size from smaller "pew-pews" to full out "boom-booms" as well as bays located on each side of the ship loaded with anti-craft missiles. Inside the ship, the Sintari have outfitted a remarkable medical bay complete with regen pods and a vast array of automated medical equipment capable of diagnosing and treating almost any malady. Blue Pulsar's AI system (known as "Blue") as well as it's suite of information technology and long-range sensors are all based on Krin technology (sometimes it's even rumored that Blue herself is a disembodied Krin intelligence in and of itself). Lastly, the Selveren added in a full range, multi-spectrum cloaking system based on their own natural ability to blend in with their surroundings.

Truly a work of magnificence, the Blue Pulsar is capable of sustaining a civilian crew upwards of 40 people- however it's more than capable running with a minimum of five. Crew quarters reside all along the front hull of the ship with the captain's chambers located just above the main control deck. A large common area precedes the crew's quarters which provides a comfortable environment for the crew to relax and eat in their down time. The engine rooms and main reactor are located towards the aft of the ship and heavily shielded with a unique crystalline alloy manufactured from a strange blend of both Kunari and Myari technologies.

The Crew

Everyone pulls their own weight aboard the Blue Pulsar. As such, everyone aboard has a specific job. As a crew member of the Blue Pulsar, you will be required to take up one of the positions and maintain it to the best of your ability.

Science Officers maintain the research labs and act as all manner of brains aboard the Blue Pulsar. The range in specialty from biologist, medical doctor, chemist, meteorologist, and even geologists. While being particularly smart, they do lack in overall tactical expertise.

Technicians handle most of the day to day maintenance aboard the ship. Whether that be building new machinery, repairing broken drives, running diagnostics on various computer systems or even navigating the vast void of infinite space. Their role is just as important as the science officers, but due to the physical requirements of some of their jobs they generally see more combat than the "science geeks".

Armed Response Units make up the brunt of the ground force. When things turn ugly, these are the first responders to most situations. Whether they be fighter pilots, scouts, gunners or other form of trained weapon specialists, A.R.U.'s as masters on the battlefields.

Chapter 1
Forced Departure

User Image

The crew of the Blue Pulsar find themselves on the Pollux Station, brother colony to Orrin's home colony of Castor. As they restock on vital supplies, it almost feels as if the crew are being watched by malcontent forces- something that's rarely a good sign when your a crew full of runaways and outlaws.

Pollux
Pollux is one of two identical stations built by humankind located on opposite sides of the galaxy. Each station was designed to be a military hub but as an era of peace took over more and more civilians began to take root and the stations were eventually decommissioned as military centers. Pollux now serves as a major trading hub as it is located along several trading routes and acts as a restocking station for many. Immediately outside of the major docking zones, mercantile districts were established and thriving markets make up almost the entire exterior ring of the station.

Population: 1.2 million life forms
Major Factions:
Twin Suns: a gang made of local miscreants who serve as a sort of "civilian watch" (so they call themselves). In truth they are a mercenary group with syndicates on both Castor and Pollux who will do almost anything for the right price.

F.I.P.A.: while not as active as they are on other planets and stations, a F.I.P.A. outpost exists on Pollux and they serve their primary directive- peacekeepers (aka police force)

Points of Interest:
Ports: the three arms extending outwards from the center serve as docking ports for various ships.

Market District: as mentioned, almost the entire outer ring of Pollux is a merchant's Mecca. Almost anything can be located (for the right price) and the entire layout has been progressively remodeled into a stylish promenade full of shop fronts and restaurants.

Black Market: below the shining veneer of the market district lies the seedy underbelly of the merchant world. Black market bionics and other contraband can be obtained, as well as illicit services that would make most common-folk blush at their mere mention. F.I.P.A. has very little sway down here and the area is generally policed by the Twin Suns.

Residential District: just inside of the market district lays the residential dwellings. Special safeguards have been put in place to make sure those who do not belong within the residential sector are not able to access them without express written permission from the commanding council.
