ITS BEEN APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS since life changed.
The government has kept the cause of the outbreak a secret even to this day,
and to this day, we are still fighting for survival. Overnight, it seems like life has changed.
Kids no longer go to school, and the only job adults have is to keep their families
-- or what's left of them -- safe. The weak have been weeded out, the infected have been
transformed into these...these creatures, and the living are barely breathing, barely
surviving. Cities are metal and concrete wastelands teeming with dangerous dead and threat
of airborne diseases, police and firefighters and soldiers are scarce, and the Dead roam
the wilderness, just waiting for a bite of pure, human flesh.
More and more people get infected every day. They say the disease targets the brain first,
then the nerves, then the eyes. You'll know by the eyes. They're a strange glow of red. Not
bloodshot, but glowing red, even during the night. Their skin gets a ghostly pale, and they
look like every bit of the zombies you used to see on TV -- back when you still had that
luxury.
But just as we've changed, they've changed too. Viruses are smarter than us. In the three
months since the first man turned, these zombies have grown in intelligence, speed, and
danger. It's not just the zombies either; some people who have been bitten don't turn
instantaneously. Say they get bitten but they escape. They don't turn. They keep the virus
dormant, and it slowly changes them without their knowing, and one day, when they and their
companions least expect it, they're too far gone.
Lately, there's been rumors of a safe haven -- it's a walled-in compound with medicine, food,
weapons, ammunition, beds, clothes. Other humans. It's where the important people went;
governors, celebrities, generals. This safe haven is no ordinary compound, however. It's
military base and an airport, which means airplanes, which means
a way out. A plane is coming, and time is running out.
You're a part of one of four groups. You're either part of a close-knit neighborhood
surviving with a couple of allies, who desperately need food, and definitely water.
Or maybe you're a part of some college freshmen who stayed behind in their rotting
campus, where one of your friends are brutally injured. You might be a part of a band of
strangers hiding out in a gas station, all cozy and trusting until...you find out that one
of you is a Bitten that hasn't turned...yet. Or you might just be a stray survivor,
a lone wolf, just riding it out the best you can.
Wherever you are, whoever you're with, survival doesn't last forever.
Sometimes, you can't survive alone, and sometimes, being alone can save your life.
Endure and survive, friends.
