Anime is slowly becoming more normal these days Im glad to say, in certain areas.

But People shun it for many different reasons:

they cannot understand it(usually why people hate stuff)

They see it as weird(bluntly, anime has some damned crazy and disturbing stuff, not all are bad, but compare a mainstream anime with a very recognizeaable plot like ghost in the shell to something bizarre like FLCL to see what i mean)

Many of its plots and characters are incredibly effeminate and bluntly, whimps.(not all, but some characters are indeed little cream puffs that even your average nerd could grapple with and overcome)

Its art(People hate creative art, thats just how it is)

Also, ppl will be teased if they seem extremely uncomfortable with themselves. If one does not give a s**t they are being seen reading an anime book, one probably wont get targetted.

I like anime, mostly the serious stuff like hellsing or ghost in the shell or fma, but some of it is disturbing(elfen lied, evangelion) even if it is good.

Take my advice and follow what you want to do. Its not up to us but you.

Also I don't like anime as much anymore to be honest. I think majority of the people like it and obsess so much over it...yah..well thats my reason..

When I get teased or something about what I like about anime, I just ignore it. I mean it's not like it's the only thing that interests me, and you like what you like. Besides, those people that have nothing else to do but harass you about liking it are just buttholes.

If you don't like anime, you shouldn't f*ck with people that do. Come on. Do people have nothing else to do but mess with people about what they watch or read. people like that justs needs to go get a F*CKIN life and stop F*UCKIN up other peoples

hey man no need to curse even if its censored, but yea i have met some people that picked on me because i liked anime. doesnt really matter to me just like victorian kitty i aswell ignore them. People like that arent really good people anyways so why would their opinion matter. I love anime! My best friends love anime too, but we also talk about videogame characters and other things. ^_^

I wear a lot of anime shirts to school, and maybe 5 people will go "Bleach? Awesome." or "omg fullmetal alchemist shirt!!!!11!1!11".

There are a good number of people at my school who like anime, but we are definetly the minority, kind of like goth kids.

I think that a lot of people don't like anime/manga because they usually (you have every right not to like anime/manga) think one of these:
a) anime are cartoons - ewww
b) dude. the boobs on those girls are huge. and so many panty shots!
c) wtf this makes no sense??/??///?/?/
d) this plot was just like those other 3 I just read. how boring and unoriginal.
e) i don't like comics (sadly, anime and comics are very different!)
f) peer pressure/school's attitude.

I think that if you love manga/anime, that is awesome! There are many good manga/anime that are very profound and original. Plus, the artwork is simply stunning. whee

I also think that people who discriminate, label, tease, or make of someone because they love manga/anime... those people are ignorant and close-minded or easy to fall for peer pressure.

So, as many people on this thread have said, ignore those close-minded people if they make fun of you. They obviously act shallow if they will treat you like that for something that you enjoy.

(*Note - I am not saying that people who do not like anime/manga are ignorant/shallow. I am only saying that it is wrong for people to negatively treat others based on the fact that they like anime/manga. It's perfectly find to not like anime/manga!)

IT was never a problem in my old highschool.
We even had anime club where we went to every-other friday and watched a different anime and ate food.

Even a few teachers adored anime and came to the club.

Sure, some people didn;t like it and thought it was weird. . .BUT they never teased or anything, because we explained the4 histopry and background of it, and sure we were fangirls, but we weren't STUPID about it, and besides, there was just too many of us. LOL We were like a gang, one member got dissed, we all took it personally, and there were just too many of us for anyone to want to piss us off.

Anime is becoming very normal now days. Think about it. Yu-gi-oh is actually an anime, but almost every kid in the U.S. watches the sow and collects the cards. Also Naruto. Since these shows are coming on cartoon network they are becoming quite ordinary to most people. They are more like everyday cartoons than anime. At least to alot of people that is.

KAIL64's ANSWER: I see no reason to be against animea. What grade are you in? If it's 8th or up, then the people at your school are just @$$#0!$ who go with the crowd. The person who started this Anti-Animae thing was most likley a stupid person much revered by other stupid people, thus creating a whole big stupid trend in your stupid school system.

KAIL64's ANSWER: No one gives reindeer chocolate whether I like animae or not at my school. No, actually, half my school's population loves animae. Never mind.
-How come anime is considerd porn but real girls in Bras on T.V. aren't?
KAIL64's ANSWER: This requires a little Japanese history lesson. Someone excuse me if I'm inncorrect... In Japan, people classically wore heavy clothes. I mean, seriously, like 12 layers, and that's in summer! And think, from that many clothes to just a bikini now, don't you think that would be suggestive?
