I grew up in the village of Kul Elna (Kuru Eruna), a town of lowlifes and thieves. I was a normal boy with white hair. One day when I was five, soldiers rode into the town and started slaughtering the villagers, while I managed to hide out of their way.My whole town was destroyed because Pharaoh Akunumkanon approved the creation of those wretched Millennium Items.
I thought that it was Atem who did it and so I thought of a plan to get revenge. When everything was set, I went off to the palace. I got there and got past many of the guards, killing whoever got in my way. As I met the pharaoh, we'd engaged in a shadow duel.
I escaped the shadow duel the first time. As the Pharaoh and his priests searched for me, I started attacking the priests to make it easier to crush the Pharaoh. I fought the priest Mahaado in a tomb, killed him, and took the Millennium Ring. Then I managed to influence the priest Akunadin with the Millennium Items' evil, thus taking away another priest from Pharaoh Atem's side. Finally, I fought the Pharaoh and defeated him and took the Millennium Puzzle. Everyone presumed him dead, but he survived, tracking me down, as we fought the final duel where the Millennium Items were created... my home village of Kuru Eruna. I lost, and the penalty of the shadow duel was that I be sealed in the Millennium Ring for 5000 years.
Now, 5,000 years after, I have come back, in the body of Ryou Bakura.
"I am a thief and a stealer of souls, and I have done terrible things in my quest to possess the Millenium Items. You do remember the legends don't you?"
