"Gaia promises not to allow anyone under the age of 13 onto this website." I don't think Gaia can run background checks on millions of people to see whether or not they've hit their teen years because I'm pretty sure not all of us are 13 and older. And as much as I agree with you, a lot of parents/guardians don't want that and I think we should just think respectably because there's no point in trying to change their minds--a lot of them won't be swayed. About 47% of the U.S. is made up of conservative minds; I don't think that number differentiates much between continents--if not, it would be an even larger statistic because of all the countries that don't teach the important things in life (mostly because they have more pressing issues to worry about; genocide, human trafficking, outsourcing, etc). And if they did have a section of over 18, how are they going to make absolute sure that no one under the age gets through? Even if they did or didn't make one, there are plenty of threads in the forums that are 18+ where 13-year-olds can learn lots (example: the Lifestyle Discussion~ XD). I think you should discuss it with an admin although I think your efforts may be futile, especially now, since they have this whole thing with the navigation bar so their systems may be flooded.
Very true but, like I said, it's international. I agree with you very much that people need to learn about sex and need to practice safe sex so that they'll be more ready in their intimate experiences but many other cultures are not so open-minded so Gaia tries to cater to those ideas as well so that they're not too biased. I was at Anime Expo and 3 Admins were at the Gaia panel and they discussed this (a mother who was concerned for her children asked about this). Also, often times, there is no such thing as sex-ed in places like Asia nor Africa and that sex is a very personal topic. Even people living in the UK and US can be less open-minded because they're more diversely cultured. My mom never gave me the "bees and the birds" talk (I still don't really know what the talk is) and had to learn about sex from movies. So yeah...it's just something to keep in mind.
Hi~ I saw your post about sex ed and whatnot in the threads for the new navigation. I just wanted to point out that Gaia is international--not just the US so they need to mind different cultures when concerning their policies [^_^] Just thought I'd let you know before you digress [^_^]
