I'm Anja, and despite my avatar I am a girl. I also happen to be a girl who likes other girls. I'm 18 and in my Freshman year of college pretty far from home. I'm loving the freedom that I have now, and I'm excited to finally be out and mostly on my own. One of the few things I miss from back home is my friends. My friends are my family, but thankfully I can still talk to them online. I'll get to see them when I go back for breaks, so I'm super excite for when that happens. I also miss my own bed, having to sleep about six feet above the floor on a mattress that's not secured to the bed frame is terrifying. I go to sleep every night wondering if I'm going to wake up on the floor with a broken leg.
I've found myself leading a somewhat masochistic lifestyle lately. I stay up way later than I should doing lots of things I probably shouldn't and then I have to get up early for classes. Of course this leads to me overdosing on red bull or consuming way too much caffeine to be good for me. I miss lots of meals because I fall asleep between my classes and just can't motivate myself to get up in time to eat. Then by the time I actually do make it to meals I'm so hungry that I end up eating all the fatty and unhealthy foods because they fill me up quicker. It also doesn't help that the cafeteria has some amazing desserts. Fortunately I seem to have a pretty good metabolism, and having to walk all over campus and up three flights of stairs to my room probably helps too.
I like lots and lots of things, my trouble is I can't focus on one thing to be passionate about and my mind is constantly wandering to other things. For my major I'm considering Anthropology, but I'm not sure and I still have time to decide.
Music wise I have fairly eclectic tastes. I like songs from tons of genres, but my favorites would probably be classic rock. Somehow rock'n'roll always seems to lift my spirits when I'm feeling down.
I love broadway musicals, and I love it when I get to see them. I've seen The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, Hairspray, Les Miserables (twice), The Full Monty, Urinetown, Company, Rent, and Wicked (twice). I'll be seeing Wicked a third time on Christmas break.
I'm a big band geed, I've finally accepted that fact. I play french horn, and trumpet. This year I'm in Winds Ensemble, take private lessons, play in a woodwind quintet, and may play in the pep band. I'm also trying to learn to play acoustic guitar when I'm at home.
I like most things fantasy and science fiction. I'm a huge Stargate fan, and I'm horribly depressed that the original series is actual over. Now I'm waiting in eager anticipation for the movies that are going to be coming out. In the meantime I still have Atlantis to satisfy me somewhat. Lord of the Rings used to be my biggest obsession ever, and I'm still fairly obsessed with it. The Hobbit was one of the first real books that I actually read.
I'm an anime/manga fan, but I'm not an otaku, thank you very much. I especially love ones that have shoujo-ai, or at least hints of it. I don't get a chance to read a lot of manga since I'm too poor to afford it and the nearest bookstore is half an hour away and I lack a car right now to get there anyways. I mostly watch anime online when I can find it. Some of my favorites are FLCL, Hellsing, Mai HiME, Strawberry Panic!, Maria-sama ga Miteru, Azumanga Daioh, and Love Hina.
