depends on which game you're talking about. Phantasy Star original (198 cool is about a young woman whose brother dies while trying to defeat an evil king. The gameplay is all based around the story of Alis (main character) and the people she meets in order to defeat King Lassic and his biomonsters (which pop up randomly throughout the game). Phantasy Star II is a continuation of Phantasy Star, but it is set on a different planet (which was very undeveloped and harsh in PS I) years in the future, where an agent awakes from a dream of a girl fighting a demon (PS I referance) only to find that he will be send on a dangerous mission the next day. Basically gameplay is the same, but graphics and sound are vastly improved from the original (although having the save feature at any time is a huge plus of PS I; PS II and III you must be in a town to save your progress, which can be a nuisance when you level up very far from a town -_- wink and the storyline is a bit more involved, with larger worlds and tougher challenges. Phantasy Star III is set after PS II, 1000 years after the massive battle between the prince Orakio and the witch Laya, you are thrown into the game as prince Rhys, an orakian (Laya and Orakio apparently had quite a lot of followers) who is making preperations to marry Maia, a strange and mysterious girl his townspeople found near the ocean the week past. But when Rhys is saying his marriage vows, a Layan demon swoops down and steals Maia away to the dangerous underground, never to be seen again. Rhys, who becomes violently enraged by this, shouts after the demon that he shall have his revenge on all Layans, and that he will have Maia back. Rhys' father, the king, gets somewhat upset by this outburst from his son, and orders guards to take him to the dungeons. A girl dressed in green (dont remember her name -_-**) comes to free Rhys from the cell he is in, and shows him to an underground passageway leading to a shop in the heart of town. Rhys is then set on his own to slay Laya's biomonsters and followers, and to save Maia from an undoubtably horrible fate. PS III, which was released on the Genesis in 1991, was the best of all three (four, really, but I have not played the fourth. i am hoping that SEGA will port it to the DS sometime soon) Phantasy Star games in terms of graphics. buildings finally became almost fully three- dimensional, and the graphics card used in the Genisis was far superior to the Mega Drive's 8-bit one. players could now see real definition on the adventure field. hopefully that was enough background info on the three games in Phantasy Star collection for the GBA.

my favorite out of all of them (even though there are aspects i love about every game) would really have to be PS II because i really found it interesting that it was set in the future, something i had never seen before i downloaded the rom smile

in general, the Phantasy Star series are very much like an earlier (and better) version of Pokemon. Pokemon was basically PS made for small children and people new to games (you know how everyone used to love the games back in elementary school XD). If you decide to try out phantasy star and you are a pokemon enthusiast (such as myself) you will love Phantasy Star Collection.
