Sophia Marie Adams was born in San Diego California on October 31, 1990 to Brennan Adams and Sirene Girard. Named after her maternal grandmother Sophie, Sophia and her parents moved to Melbourne, Australia due to her parents work. Shortly after moving, her sister Serenity was born. Sophia and Serenity have been each other best friend ever since the day the latter was born.

When Sophia was six she met Sebastian Baldwin who becomes her most inseparable best friend. Two years later an inexplicable incident occurs at the Baldwin residence which leaves Sebastian orphaned and under the care of Brennan and Sirene. As Sophia grew up, her feelings towards her best friend began to change. She was secretly crushing on him, unknowing that him too was falling in love with her.

In the Spring of 2008 her parents brings the news of a work opportunity in their father's hometown of Philadelphia which is in the United States. Her reactions were those of sadness as she would be leaving behind many people whom she loves. On August 18, 2008 the Adams family moves to the city in Pennsylvania and arrives to an already furnished apartment. A few days later as she sat down on the front steps of her home, Sophia was greeted by a girl of her age named Anastasia Molotov. This sweet and super eccentric girl shows Sophia every place she needs to know in Philadelphia. From her father's club to the mansion; streets away from their school, Girard College; where the Darkblade sisters lives.

Weeks later Sophia meets Angeline Darkblade in her English class. They are paired up by their teacher for a project and from there on a friendship is formed, even though Sophia doesn't know the secrets this girl as well as Anastasia are forced to hide. Through her sister, she meets Evangeline Darkblade; who has a much darker secret than Anastasia and her twin.
