Yeah it's nice when you start looking up stuff about myths and such, especially ones that you just don't here a lot about, and find something really useful. And dragons are my thing, but I don't actually do much writing about them. I got some story ideas with them in there, but each story world kind of has it's own thing.

Well, I am very lazy, you see. So though I like learning about all those things, I hate doing things like research. So, for the most part, I make up my own rules. That's not to say I don't use those things as a backdrop. Starting somewhere familliar always helps. In the end, though, I like to do whatever I want, so I go with my own mythologies. Even for creatures such as dragons, I have my own rules. I do use the elemental and metallic forms, but mine are normally very intelligent, capable of telepathic communication, and have four forms: Dragon, draconian, human, and wolf. I also sort of have my own culture for them, with a few words. Of course it's not all original, but I'm fond of dragons, so I don't think using someone else's rules would work for me. I have another idea for a story with a warrior race loosely based off Norse mythology, but it starts there and moves very far away. I'm good at thinking of that stuff, though. In fact, I'm much better at conceptualizing than I am at actually getting to the writing. I love making up my own worlds, with their own rules and histories. Of course, I am a control freak, so that probably makes sense.

Well that's understandable (being picky on reading, I mean). I very rarely can just pick up any random thing. Though sometimes I'm surprised when I do. I picked up one that was essentially and archeological adventure type story and ended up eventually getting the whole series. Amazingly I managed to get them all in order without knowing what order they came in. They are in essense the same book over and over, but a lot of what I write is like that, and so long as the specific details change I'm fine with that. It's pretty much impossible to be all that original these days. So many stories have been writen. Instead I focus more on the details, and when I'm writing, I just try to do a solid job. Anyway, I like history and those books used a lot of real historical backdrop, usually with a slight change, like a Roman Emporer that faked his death or something like that, so they were a lot of fun for me. Anyway, that's one example of random success.
