She froze for half a second, looking down, then looked back up, making level and absolutely calm eye contact.





" I owe him my life. If Spider needs my help, anywhere, anytime, I'll be there. But as far as day-to-day contact goes, neither of us engage much." She broke the eye contact, not wanting to force Sage into a staredown. "And that's it." She said firmly. "Good luck to him."

"Oh, that's not open-ended at all." Cat muttered, leaning back uneasily in her chair. "Lemme think." She paused. Cat knew she had an interesting enough past that she could probably make conversation on that alone for a week, but the whole trust issue remained. But hadn't Sage just spilled her guts on her problems?



"It's been awhile since I heard from Spider, that kinda sucks." She said finally, blinking.
