Poems from a friend
GRAVEYARD
Sitting here among the stones
My body weary to its bones
Raindrops falling all around
Mixed with tears they soak the ground
Wet and cold I feel a shiver
Knees are weak they start to quiver
Slowly now I try to rise
Gazing upward to the sky
Asking God to please forgive
For I have no desire to live
Too much pain, too much dread
The cold hard steel pressed to my head
Falling roughly to my knees
My finger now begins to squeeze
Contemplating all you said
Your final wish comes true:
I’m dead.
Chris K: A WALK WITH DEATH
Walking down a lonely road a chance encounter
Death was waiting there.
I tried to pass without looking up
Hoping not to hear.
But death called out and stopped me cold
The voice was clear and loud.
My time was now I had to go
And so I took the shroud.
Clothed in black we journeyed far
Passing many on the way.
Young and old, good and bad
T’was not their judgement day.
And as we walked my soul unburdened
Every sin from now and past.
Closer now to heaven’s door
Soon to breathe my last.
As we stopped at pearly gates
I saw them open wide.
Beautiful, magnificent
I slowly stepped inside.
A gentle voice, a soothing touch
There to welcome me.
I heard Him say “you’re safe inside.”
“Today, my child, you’re free.”
