Anywho, for this addition to my random profile rambling, is the theme at hand, Romeo x Juliet.
My new favorite anime is Romeo x Juliet, which is based on the play by William Shakespeare. Don't get me wrong, though, the only relations that the anime and manga had to the actual play were the names and the Montague/Capulet battle. The anime had several things that the play lacked, in my opinion, and things that made the anime overall very enjoyable, This includes:
-Developing characters
-More action/fighting sequences
-An added fantasy element (dragonsteeds similar to the pegasus and the floating land-mass of Neo Verona)
-Plot twists
-Beautiful art and animation
Anyway, it's very high on my must-watch list, and it's even worth rewatching... a few hundred billion times. O.o
Well, anyway, in the play, I felt very little consideration for Romeo and Juliet as they took their final breaths in this world. They died on their own selfish accord and left absolutely nothing in this world that anyone would give a hoot about (other than ending the fight between the Capulets and Montagues, but how they reached that conclusion? Who knows).
In the anime, Romeo and Juliet were all for the people, fighting for their rights against a tyrant (Lord Montague in this instance), and much more. Who doesn't love a people person? They were actually models of how everyday people like me should be, fighting for what they believe in. Not that retarded "love at first sight" and whatnot, or whatever message the original play was trying to portray. (Oh, by the way, I'm not trying to flame on Shakespeare. The literature is intriguing, and I love reading it, but the story lacked is all.)

Here I was, trying to finish a Romeo and Juliet project that I procrastinated on waaaay too much...and I happened to stumble upon your profile.
I first watched Romeo x Juliet about three or four months ago, and my opinion of it is really similar to yours. I believe the anime was everything that the play lacked.
When I try to explain why I think Romeo and Juliet are selfish, people always tell me "NOOOO. THEY DIED FOR EACH OTHER. DUUUH.", but to the anime...they really are "small" in comparison.
Anyway, I'm really glad I found another person that shares my opinion and doesn't bash the anime beyond recognition like everyone else does (people are really harsh on Gonzo for some reason).
