BIOGRAPHY
Echo (こだま, Kodama), the Dark Prince (ダークプリンス, Dāku Purinsu), is an immortal supernatural being. A character balanced between antagonist and a protagonist, he is a very mischievous and dark individual. At the age of six, Echo was left with the Radiant Pendent, an important heirloom belonging to his exterminated ancestry. He was warned to never let the artifact out of his sight. Out of fear and panic, he buried the object in an abandoned meadow near his village. Shortly after, Echo was placed into a mysterious coma. He then awakened many centuries later with supernatural abilities as well as aging ten years during the process of which his abilities developed. At that time, the world had been possessed with dark creatures known as the Legion, ruled by the Red-Eyed creature who was responsible for the disappearance of the Radiant Pendant and Echo's mysterious coma. Four years later, after recovering all of his past memories, Echo has become fully engrossed in his search for the legendary Radiant Pendent, an item with which he hopes to restore both peace in the world and his capability of enduring death.
APPEARANCE
Echo is small for his age, standing at only 175 cm (5'9") and 135 pounds. He has unruly short coal-black colored hair, with bangs that reach just below his eyes. Echo's eyes are black colored as well - which are often unfocused, as he seems to fade out into another plane of existence, his mind dancing somewhere along creative lines - signifying his mysterious ancestry. His left ear is pierced with a small black hoop earring. Echo wears as his trademark a dark black, white fur-lined armor with a leather torso. Emblazoned in onyx on the shoulder of his armor is a half crescent moon, signifying his tutelage under his title as the Dark Prince. It is likely that Echo fashioned this armor for himself, as he needs to repair it often. After awakening from his coma, his shadow had merged itself into a star-like symbol on the front of his armor. Though Echo's clothes vary over the course of events, he seems particularly partial to black and will nearly always dress in black trouser shorts and some sort of black shirt under his armor. In his casual outfit, Echo primarily wears a sleeveless white v-neck shirt, exposing his collarbone, with a black over-jacket. Echo is rarely seen without his black leather ankle-high boots. He wears two dog tags: one with the word "Dark" in Japanese and the other with his symbol of the crescent moon. Additionally, he wears finger-less black gloves when in public to conceal the black marks on the palm of both of his hands. It is likely that his general outfit is meant to convey a black and white motif, as these three colors are considered significant in representing Twilight and darkness as part of the current culture and civilization. He wields a black steel staff usually seen slung over his shoulder, and a foot-long, curved dagger located in its steel scabbard fastened to his waist.
PERSONALITY
On the surface, Echo displays an immature sort of personality. He is cunning and charming; he is somewhat selfish at times, generally acting more out of self-interest than any sort of philanthropy as well as taking several opportunities to flaunt his skills. He is largely hostile towards figures of authority, but does not display any of it verbally or physically. He feels incentive to taking orders from others, earning him the distinction of being a loose cannon of sorts. He has the appearance and expression of one who is extremely crafty and confident. Despite his appearance, he mainly resorts to violence than calm negotiation to settle disputes. He has a reputation for being both blunt and sarcastic, causing for him to easily pick up fights even with the most collective people. However, he does have a soft spot for children because of their resemblance to him at being tricksters and pranksters. Echo has also displayed a propensity towards impatience and an inability to sit still for long, which perhaps contributes to his love of travel. However, for those few people who have made an impact on him, Echo shows his deeper nature to be one of marked awkward, friendly, unflinching loyalty and great compassion. As someone who has had to suffer greatly at such a young age, Echo cannot ignore the true suffering of others and becomes quite sympathetic upon sensing pain and resolve in people's hearts. Though his solemn advice to such people is often tempered with brusque criticism, it is only because he genuinely wishes to place them on the most direct path forward. As one burdened by the mistakes of his past, he stresses the necessity of people taking responsibility for their own errs. Though he will intervene on behalf of the oppressed if he concludes that a situation has called for it, Echo tends to help only those with the will - but not the means - to help themselves, in which case his recklessness and disdain for authority often has him bending the rules to dole out a Robin Hood-esque justice, earning him notoriety and popularity as a "hero of the people". Echo's aesthetic sensibilities do not quite match his personality in that he is a great fan of fantasy, and will usually transmute decorations filled with nature and scenery.
ABILITIES
Despite Echo's small structure and age, he is a remarkable combatant. As such, his slight frame belies a compactly muscular build that, in addition to his naturally high energy level and endurance, fuels his considerable strength and agility. Due to his self-training, Echo has become a particularly competent hand-to-hand fighter, able to hold his own against armed opponents and even skilled martial arts practitioners. As suggested by his unprecedented acceptance into all guilds at such a remarkably young age, in which he all declined, Echo is a prodigy of genius level intellect. From early childhood, he displayed proficiency for weaponry, acquiring self-taught fighting skills and comprehension from the advanced blacksmith literature in his family's abandoned study at an age that shocked everyone. Having incorporated weaponry into his life during his developmental stages, Echo sees the world differently and is therefore able to solve complicated codes, puzzles and mysteries much more easily than normal. He has also shown himself to be exceptionally adept at crafting and reasonably competent with all studies. Echo's near-encyclopedic knowledge of weaponry theory is astounding and contributed to his incredible success with many dangerous emergency experimentation. He shows an uncanny level of focus that allows him to effectively shut out everything from his surroundings and devote all of his considerable mental power to whatever problem demands his attention, especially in the case of books. Asides from his natural born talent, the abilities he received after his recovery is even more astounding. Given powerful dark magic called the Black Aura, he can summon dark flames of power from the palm of his hands, where there are glowing ancient runes. An aura is visible around him when he releases his powers. Receiving these abilities have halted his aging process, and turned him into an immortal being.
