Mules are a mix between donkeys and horses, and before many people could before cars they were used as pack animals. I think the correct term for what your account is is an Alternate account. The term "mule" on Gaia probably originally meant "an alternate account I use to store my items and gold on when I do not want them on my main account." Some treat thier alternate account like that, while others use thier mules to play a different personality (thier main might seem to be a spaz, while one of thier mules would act and dress like a gentleman of the Victorian era, and another might act and look like a volcanic fire spirit.) Others use thier mules to be a cosplay of a character they like in TV shows, Games, Movies, and other media. Others use them to get away from the crowd and people who know them on thier main.
... Gosh I ramble.
But in the end even if the alternate account is made for any reason, at the base of it they have the same function as the mules I mentioned in the original description. An account to store items and gold. I frequently gift or trade items and gold from my mules to myself and back.
