About

Male bettas flare their gills, twist their bodies, and spread their fins if enthusiastic about a female. The female darkens in colour, then curves her body back and forth as a response. Males create bubble nests of numerous sizes and thicknesses in the surface of your water. They do this on a regular basis even if there is absolutely no female present.

The betta was first discovered in Southeast Asia. Producing its residence in rice paddies, drainage ditches and the warm flood plains from the region, the betta became accustomed to frequent storm flooding and devastating droughts. The cyclic, drastic alterations in its environment helped the fish to adapt - becoming a correct labyrinth fish. A labyrinth fish has the exclusive capability to breathe oxygen directly in the air as well as take in oxygen from its gills. As a result, bettas and other labyrinth fish can survive for short periods of time out of water and if needed, can inhale the air about them (supplied they stay moist.) This also explains why a betta can sustain itself in stagnant, oxygen-deficient water. Although bettas can tolerate compact spaces and poor water good quality, they do best in smaller aquariums (at least two gallons) with regular water changes. The preferred water temperature to get a betta is 76-82 degrees F.

Quite a few people today mistakenly believe that betta fish must be kept in “solitary confinement.” Female bettas can reside with each other, and although male bettas will fight with other male bettas, they could be placed singly inside a “community” aquarium containing other species of fish.

The Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens), also at times colloquially recognized as the betta, is usually a species in the gourami household which can be preferred as an aquarium fish. They may be named pla-kad (biting fish) in Thai or trey krem in Khmer. They may be aggressive towards their own species (females can group). Having said that, they are able to be paired with other fish.

halfmoon betta In the finish from the day all I want is for the fish to become content and live very good lives. I don’t desire to be that guy that claims to “know everything” about betta fish… but a person must step up and give some concrete suggestions and I’ve been undertaking this for any long time efficiently. Blah blah blah.. let’s get to some swift details now.
