I, Mari McCabe was born in Africa, and was daughter to Reverend Jiwe who later possessed the magical Tantu Totem. There was a legend that said that the warrior Tantu asked Anansi the Spider to create a magical Totem that will be able to have the power passed down by the Anansi the Spider. Later my mother was killed by poachers and my father had died by Maksai, my half-brother. He then took the Totem and I ventured off to New York where I established a career as a model. I later returned to Africa and retrieves my Totem from my uncle and took on the Codename Vixen.

I then apply for for full-time League membership, and is accepted. The Tantu Totem is then again stolen by Maksai who intends to use the Totem's power for evil. But the Totem only gives the user power only if they are using it for the good of mankind. Maksai was then transformed into a raging Ox. He then dies in battle with me. After this incident to League members were killed and JLA disbands, leaving me teamed up with Animal Man once again to stop a mysterious force.
