TACOMA, Wash. -- Police say a woman killed in a Tacoma house fire had made it outside but went back into the burning home to rescue a pet.The 43-year-old woman, Judith Abson, was trapped on a second floor Friday by smoke and flames. Firefighters rescued two other women by ladder from a window.
The Pierce County medical examiner's office reported Monday that Abson died from inhaling smoke.
The News Tribune of Tacoma reports the fire started in the basement of the home in the Hilltop neighborhood and set off smoke alarms.
