Her life in basic summary form
Kaye is an elven woman whose life is far too confusing for her own good. Personally, if I were in her shoes, I would have tossed myself off a bridge long ago, but there you have it.
She was born in an elven city where life was, for the most part, peaceful. The elves lived together in harmony among the trees, their magic causing the forest around them to grow and flourish.
They were all normal elves, for the most part, save for little Kaye. Though she never told anybody, when she slept nightmares would seize her.
Not the normal nightmares that children get, either. Nightmares so real that they scared her to the point she seldom allowed herself to sleep.
Little did she know, the strange nightmares affected her more than she thought. They marked her with the Nightmare Realm's symbol; a miniscule black rose with it's petals torn and wilting.
One day while she was bathing with the other small children her age, her mother spotted it just above her right breast. Panic-striken, the motherly elf seized Kaye from the lake and wrapped her in a towel before anybody else had a chance to spot it. The mother told nobody about her daughter's marking, and never let Kaye bathe with those her age again.
Elven seers had prophecied of a the day when a small elven innocent would be marked with the Nightmare Realms rose for centuries. All the elves knew the legend by heart, though few of them actually believed it. If they happened to see Kaye's marking, however, they would have to, and mayhem would definitely follow.
The legend said that the Nightmare Realm would finally succeed in reaching a child while it was in it's mothers womb. The youngling would be cursed with the Realm's hauntings every night they slept. As the elf got older, it was said the Realms grip on her would tighten, finally marking them with a black rose.
Depending on the strength of the child's heart, they were either destined to bring the elven kingdom to great power... or possibly destruction.
So Kaye got older, blissfully unaware of the burden resting upon her shoulders. When she reached 17 her mother had another child, Aykio. The small elven girl grew quickly, and accumulated an extremely strong bond with Kaye. All was well in the family.
Then, one day, Kaye had foolishly decided to go swimming, despite her mothers warnings against it.
The Nightmare Realm's mark on her chest was spotted and easily recognized by an elder who had been pacing nearby. He forefully grabbed Kaye and took her to the Clan Elders.
The Elders immediately banished Kaye and forbid those who knew about her to speak of it to anyone for fear of a riot.
Kaye found herself wandering around the wilderness for nearly 20 years, living off the wilderness and the blade she had stolen from a nearby village. She trained herself in the ways of magic and weapons, growing stronger physically, but also weaker mentally.
The nightmares never ceased; instead, they became more violent, sometimes trapping her inside their depths for days. Finally Kaye came to the conclusion that she needed help.
By night she crept back to the city where she had grown up and woke her sister.
Aykio told her that their mother and father had both been killed by a band of robbers that had passed through. She was living alone without the support of any elderly figures to help her through.
Kaye took her sister and together they left, traveling deep into the forest where they knew they would be safe from the other elves. There Kaye told her sister her troubles and the two of them fasted for weeks, meditating in hopes of discovering a plan.
Finally Aykio turned to her sister with a solution. It was a simple one, but would require much sacrifice on Aykio's part. At first Kaye refused to use it, but Aykio convinced her it was the only way.
Life Summary Part two
That night the two of them performed a ritual that had been outlawed for many centuries.
The two of them switched bodies. Small Aykio's spirit now possessed Kaye's raven-haired figure, while Kaye now posessed Aykio's young violet-haired body.
The switch was supposed to keep the Nightmare Realm confused long enough for Kaye to grow strong enough to fight them off. And so Aykio hid away in a cave while Kaye set off on a journey, still not used to functioning in such a small body.
During her travels, Kaye came across a fox whose right paw had a strange silver sheen. Kaye was immediately drawn to it for many reasons, one being that when she performed magic her right palm would glow silver. She felt that the two of them were destined to have met and took the fox in, caring for it like a mother would her child.
Silverpaw, as she named him, proved to be much more than an ordinary fox. It possessed powers not unlike an elves. He and Kaye could even communicate telepathetically.
Kaye and Silverpaw journied on. And then, one day, they came across an Inn that would change everything.
It was called The Sleeping Dragon Inn. Kaye entered it, bloody and worn, and ordered a bed to stay the night in.
