The One Pain : Von Bach
an excerpt

...But in the midst of the war, both of my parents were caught in an air raid. They both died instantly.

This horrid memory remains clear to me as ever. As I stand watching, their limbs flew about the air. The remnants of their bodies smashed forcefully against the old German buildings creating much splatter and bloodshed. The inferno created by the bombs slowly incinerated their flesh and bone as I continued to watch the horrid scene.

No one would care for me, for I am but a young girl; incapable of bringing food to the table. No one would take me in. No one would weep for me or them. I felt as if I were only a burden to the German nation.
