wandering in his "fathers" tower he began to wonder if he would ever escape from marcus. he and his parents had been bought at the market after a group of demon hunters caught them in the woods when kaden was just turning 5. his father had been slain as soon as they had been bought, the salesman insisting on his father being rebelious. marcus simply looked at him and the man started to feel uneasy so he gave him his money back and ran home. later that night for reasons unknown he died. since then his mother has worked in marcus's mine, until now. marcus was sitting in his grand chambers when a messenger knocked on the door. "you may enter" malcom said gently. nervously the messenger opened the door. "s-sir?" he stammered "i bring a message from the mines sir" marcus sat patiently waiting. "s-sir there was a collapse in the mines and twelve workers were killed" he twisted his hands nervously..."one of them was kadens mother". in a flash marcus was across the room. "kill anyone else who knows about the collapse, do not let any of the workers out of your sight. kaden does NOT find out about this. do you understand?" he growled. nearing tears the young messenger stammered "y-y-y-yes s-s-sir" as soon as marcus let him go the boy was gone. but marcus's plan for kaden not to find out had failed before it began. standing down the hall having heard the whole thing kaden started to tremble with rage. without any warning there was a loud pop and in the blink of an eye, black and blood red fur erupted from every pore, his legs breaking into a new shape, his face elongated, teeth as sharp as knives sprouted from his gums, his ears stretching, until finally he was a five foot tall wolf. howling his sorrow and pain, and hearing it echo throughout the whole castle, he took off in a flash, all four paws drumming the ground in a familiar beat. "this is really me" he thought. "i remember now" a fresh wave of pain surged as he remembered his father falling to the ground without a head as marcus had stood there like someone had dropped an apple. he burst into the open as he left the castle, a dark blur racing across the grounds, and into the forest.
back at the castle servants and soldiers both scurried around the castle attempting to find the wolf thinking it was just a normal wolf. the captain of the guard, joseph entered the grand chambers and strode to marcus's side unafraid and gave his report. "sir! the wolf has left the castle and most likely the grounds as well" he kneeled in front of marcus out of respect but kept his eyes locked on marcus's expresion. calmly he asked "how did it get in joseph? how many times must i tell you to tighten the guard? maybe i should get a new captain." an evil grin crossed his face as joseph realized what he was saying. "sir i am the best of the guard! you cannot find a better captain!" he caught himself before he said to much. he sighed "and that is the only reason you are still alive." he waved his hand dismissing joseph.
as kaden started to calm down he slowed to a slow walk and after a minute he stopped completely. "ok" he thought, "what now?" he concentrated as hard as he could on his human shape and with another loud pop of breaking rearranging bones, his fur raced back into his skin, his snout shortened into a normal face again, and he stood up. realizing that marcus didn't know about him he began to plot his downfall. suddenly he heard a horn blow. as fast as he could he raced back to the castle. when he got closer he slowed to a normal human pace and silently padded up to the great chambers. marcus was looking out a window when kaden opened the door. marcus called over his shoulder "kaden". he stepped from his shadowy hiding place. "yes father?" "bring her back" he said pointing at a fleeing woman, running into the forest he had just come from. "yes father" he said dissapearing once more into the shadows.....
