Jimmy O'James is a ventriloquist who has an act with Slappy. He is described as a teenage boy who dresses entirely in black, and has a large smile. In the show, the character is significantly older, and he and Slappy wear matching tuxedos when they perform.

Slappy likes to belittle and insult him onstage, and has ruined many of Jimmy's shows by throwing his insults at the audience, making children cry, and making deafening siren noises. Jimmy eventually gets his revenge in Slappy's Nightmare.

Jimmy is the only character besides Slappy to appear in more than one Night of the Living Dummy book.
