Backdrops are parts of certain items. If you look under the "Dream Avi" art of this site: http://www.tektek.org/index.php you can see all the items Gaia has to offer and put them together to see how they work on your avatar. Then you can look for them on the market and if you can't afford them yet, add them to your wish list so you can work up to them or possibly get lucky and have an awesome friend send something to you from the list.

Haha, but seriously, it pays off to put fish in there and treat them well. The happier your fish, the better stuff you get. A few days ago the Overseer (that clam shell thing) gave me this jacket that sold for 30,000 gold in the marketplace.
