I have been on a quest to find an adequate symbol of paradox for a long time. I was starting to slowly accept the yin-yang as the symbol... but recently, I decided it's been looking me in the face a long time. I was trying to justify my helpless obsession with butterflies - and then I stumbled onto it. The two wings across are symmetrical, indicating balance. It also pertains to order - forcing one side into equality with another side that doesn't exist as linearly as that. It also can represent chaos - for a long time the beat of a butterfly's wings has been associated with hurricanes for that reason. I also kinda feel like it is in a butterfly's flight itself that can seem a bit chaotic - they don't glide or soar like birds - or even most other insects. It has a perfect natural sense to it, but it deviates from what most people envision as "flight." They are fragile, but some are poisonous.... and so on. So, yeah. Feel free to poke holes in my symbolism if you want. I like it. If nothing else, it is a good excuse. heart

Besides, it justifies my apparent need to collect things with butterflies on them. sweatdrop
