I guess I didn't look at it that way. Or maybe I chose my words poorly. <<; Seems the problem stems from classification a lot of the time too, since they're blended so much. Thor, for example. Alien yes, and it's admitted that they have super advanced technology. But at the same time it's considered magic by many (I apologize for my lack of comic book knowledge). Is it really? Is it somehow both? "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" as the saying goes.
What I'm more driving it regarding my variation comment is that one seems to be more varied than the other, because SciFi suffers from a slough of genre technicalities in the eyes of the people. Like Batman. Just..normal Batman, no extended Universe. SciFi or just Fi? Does something like Superman really seem SciFi-y enough to most?
Though I wouldn't really count a modern day setting with a dictator as Science Fiction; just Fiction.
Though I still think Fantasy is more accessible to the common person. Holm was right in that SciFi generally requires one to think more, something that's been shrinking in popularity for the vast majority of my life. Or so it has seemed. Magic works because magic. Superpowered mutagens, OP'd fictional elements, and spaceships? Not so much.
Of course it could just be the cultural zeitgeist of this cycle.
Forgive my tendency to speak as though I'm still in my own head. < _<;

It's true, they do. I would know, I'm one of them a lot of the time (outdoorsy, hunter, gardener, work in the food industry, plays with machines and chemicals),God only knows what I track in some days. sweatdrop
Though to be fair it's more the cities than the people that stank back then, what with all the sewage flowing in the streets.
Isn't this a fun topic

My personal opinion on that is that High Fantasy affords more familiarity to most and tends to be more varied, whereas SciFi is usually space + aliens + lasers. Not that fantasy isn't just as homogeneous in a lot of ways, it's just more prevalent, because it's easier, and as such has greater variety. People usually have an easier time seeing themselves in those characters, in those settings. with those powers, etc, etc.
Though it would also depend on one's definition of SciFi. Like.. would you just be counting stuff like Stargate and Battlestar Galactica, or could something like The Avengers be considered SciFi
But that's just my 2 cents.

Saw your post in the "What are you thinking" thread, about fantasy stuff. Thought you might like to see this.
Also the life expectancy in those days isn't really around 30; it's just a misleading average, due to the high number of infant deaths. While their life expectancies were definitely shorter due to war, illness, childbirth difficulties, etc, it was closer to 50 for the average person. It was generally considered if you made it to age 20 you'd live another 30 years.
Just thought you might be interested.

It's fine. Actually, it's okay to vent or rant like that in that thread. I have seen something much more worse in that thread and I think your post is okay.
I swear people who get the most compliments here are people who have "pretty" avatars. lol

I admit that your avatar kinda blend in the masses because there are many hipsters and/or demons exist here, but at least... um. What I've said before. You have a good sense of humor which is an awesome trait for me. Also, I still remember that post you ghost/enviro my avatar in a cutesy outfit well.

I can't say anything more here because I don't want people see what I think about WG.

I admit that I thought you were a typical CBer due to a hipster-ish demon avatar, but in truth you are more than that.
I really like your honesty and your humor. I much preferred this than overly "nice" people who never express honest negative feelings to anyone.

I understand you because I feel kinda the same sometimes.
