Well the first one is good, the second one isn't so I see why the AT didn't like it. The thing you need to concentrate on with these avatars is slim, tight items. Nothing that sticks out too far in the avatar.
It's all good texture-wise, but I can see the handheld scroll thing being a bit bulky.
The main thing you have jumbled up is your colors. You should concentrate on keeping your warms/cools distributed equally.
Warms being those orange/red/brown/tan colors, and the cools being the green/blue/black/whites. <3
Since you have a bunch of green on your head, make sure you mix in some warm colors there as well. <3
