Gunpei Yokoi
Gunpei Yokoi
September 10, 1941–October 4, 1997
This October marks the 10th year since the unfortunate passing of a man I idolize more than anyone else in the world. Many who play video games today owe everything to Gunpei Yokoi, but so many do not even know his name or his legacy. His innovation helped Nintendo in its early years, and helped it become the world's most recognized and celebrated video game company. He was the general manager of R&D1, the most successful of Nintendo's divisions, and the source of many of the highest rated games of all time. I would have given anything to have met him - it would have been the defining moment of my life. It is too late for that now, but to this day I continue to mourn him, and respect all that he has done. I pray that his memory will endure forever.
