Luna Lovegood (now known as Luna Scamander and forever considered 'Loony Luna') was born to Xenophilius Lovegood and his now deceased wife between September 1st of 1980 and May 2nd of 1981. Her mother passed away when Luna was only nine years of age due to a practice of spells gone wrong and Luna had saw causing her to be able to see Thestrals, winged horses that are only visible to those that have seen death. When she enters Hogwarts, it is obvious that she belongs in Ravenclaw for she is quite a thinker. In fact, she believes in things such as nargles, which are mischievous thieves that live in mistletoe, and believes that in order to ward them off she must wear her butterbeer cork necklace and radish earrings. She also believes that nargles are the reason for missing shoes and papers. She is played by Evonna Lynch in the films.

As you can already tell, Luna is quite a character. She gets her nickname Loony Luna because she, like her nickname, is extremely loony. And it just kinda has a ring to it. With the radish earrings and the butterbeer cork necklace, do I really have to go on with her description to let you know that she is entirely like no other? Certainly not, but that's not all there is to her. She has big silvery gray eyes, dirty blonde hair, and is extremely pale. She is said to have "permanently frightened" and distracted facial expressions. She could often be described as pretty despite her odd way of dressing.

She was placed in the Ravenclaw house at Hogwarts by the Sorting Hat. Members of this house are known for their intelligence, wit, and creativity. Though she was in a different house, she quickly befriended Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Neville Longbottom as well as Ron and Ginny Weasley. Later came a secret alliance in the Hogwart's Room of Requirement (in Order of the Pheonix) called Dumbledore's Army (DA) to help other students learn proper Defense Against the Dark Arts which would later prepare them for the major battle of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and Harry Potter at the end of the last story. Here she learned of her patronus, a hare. DA had gotten shut down for the next school year and was restarted by Luna, Neville, and Ginny who had kept it going from then on.

Luna had been used against Harry and the crew in the last book when she had been taken by death eaters and the only way that she was to be returned was for the turning over of Harry to the Ministry of Magic. In doing this, Harry, Hermione, and Ron had gone to Xenophilius to question what he knew of the Deathly Hallows and when asking where Luna was, Xeno claimed she was down at the lake so as to keep them there so he could call for the Dark Lord to come. But his plan was foiled when they escaped, Hermione had kept in mind that Luna was in captivity and so that nothing happened to Luna or her father, Hermione made sure the Death Eaters got a view of Harry escaping to ensure them that Xenophilius was not lying to them.

After Hogwarts, she became a famous wizarding naturalist that would travel the world looking for strange creatures. While she had found many undiscovered creatures, she could not prove to the others than Crumple-Horned Snorkacks actually existed. She then went on to marry a fellow naturalist Rolf Scamander, grandson of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them's author Newt Scamander, much later in life and had two children to him, naming them Lorcan and Lysander, several years after her friends had children of their own.
