Torchwood Database: Captain Jack Harkness

Captain Jack Harkness at your service! I used to be a time traveller from the Time Agency in the 51st century. Now, I'm leader of Torchwood, which was formerly an organisation specialising in aliens and alien technology. The reformed Torchwood's aim is still to protect Britain from alien threats, but less...aggressively.

I've done a lot of things in my lifetime. I went from being a prisoner of war to Time Agent, con-artist, and finally leader of a secret organisation: Torchwood! Life hasn't been the same since I first met the Doctor. Now I have an even longer life to look forward too since Rose brought me back to life, only immortal. Can't say I'm complaining. After all, there are still lots of places to see, things to do, people to flirt with...

Torchwood Database: How I met the Doctor

I first met the Doctor during the London Blitz in 1941. I'd lured him there with a Chula ambulance ship. Unfortunately, I accidentally released a swarm of nanogenes and the ship happened to land on a boy who was instantly healed by them. The bad thing was, the boy was wearing a gas mask so the nanogenes fused the mask into his face and created a sort of zombie. Whoever touched the boy became just like him and it started a sort of plague. Not my finest moment. Trust me, you do not want an angry Doctor on your hands.

We got off to a rocky start, but it got better from then on. The Doctor sure has got good taste in his female companions.

Torchwood Database: Founding of Torchwood

Torchwood. The name itself ought to be a secret. Unfortunately, since a certain Owen Harper decided to order pizza under that particular name, we've become pretty well-known to the police. Which is how Gwen Cooper found us. I guess that's not so bad. She's determined, stubborn...just like the rest of us.

It's not like we didn't advertise the name ourselves anyway, so I can see why Owen didn't find any problem in ordering pizza under the name.

We've come a long way. After the London branch of Torchwood collapsed, I've set up a base here in Cardiff. It's the perfect place. All sorts of things get washed up here. Until the human race is ready for it, though, we have to hide the technology we find and the aliens who escape from the rift.

We've lost two of our team. They died trying to save the rest of humanity. However, we have two replacements who were former companions of the Doctor. Mickey Smith (technician/computer hacker) and Martha Jones (doctor, formerly of UNIT). We are most honoured to have them.

The twenty-first century is when everything changes. Will you be ready?

Torchwood Database: Former Team Members - Owen Harper

Name: Owen Harper

Date of death: Series 2, Episode 13, 'Exit Wounds'
Cause of death: At first, a shot to the heart. After revival, decomposition by nuclear radiation.
Brief Description: Narcissistic, womaniser, undead for a short amount of time, temporarily suffered depression, girlfriend Katie died due to an alien in her brain.

Captain Jack Harkness intervened in Katie's operation, exposing an alien living in her brain. Alien's gas killed everyone in the operating theatre. CCTV footage later edited to remove Jack from the film. Owen refused to believe he had made up the events and tried to hunt down the facts. Invited to Torchwood after meeting Jack again when visiting Katie's grave.

Torchwood Database: Former Team Members - Toshiko Sato

Name: Toshiko Sato
Occupation: Technician
Date of death: Series 2, Episode 13, 'Exit Wounds'
Cause of death: Shot by Captain Jack Harkness' younger brother, Gray
Brief Description: Quiet but intelligent, a computer genius, had a relationship with a woman (Mary, an alien), Owen Harper (the team's former medic) and a soldier from 1918.

Not much is known about Toshiko. Her work involves the tracking down of escaped aliens from the Cardiff rift and the study of alien technology. She developed a time-lock with the purpose of defending the Torchwood base, but it has an added side-effect of preventing escape from the Hub whilst likewise preventing entry to the Hub.
