"OMG! They're turning the Holocaust into a comic book!?!?!?!" seemed to be the problem people had with it. Many people seem to think that comic books must at least be upbeat and positive, something that children can enjoy. I've only read bits as it's really depressing.

Maus created quite a stir when it started in the 80s. I don't think it is inappropriate for use in teaching history any more than the Diary of Anne Frank.

I've only been watching anime since 2008, but UY was one of the first series I ever watched, followed by Ranma 1/2 a bit later, Mermaid's Forset, and finally InuYasha - which I loved. I am an unrepentant Fluffy fangirl. cat_razz I tried to watch Maison Ikkoku a couple of times but never managed to finish the first season. I'm still hunting down eps of Rumic Theater, and occasionally read Rinne, but I'm not really into manga.

Wow, even on Gaia not too many people seem to have have heard of UY. My fave is probably Lum, but Ran gives her a run for the money and might be even crazier. Ataru annoyed the hell out of me until the ep where he wore an incredibly dorky outfit made for him by a dead girl to make her ghost happy, and I realized then that he truly loves all women. Who is your favorite?

Sea-Salt Ice Cream

It's a reference to Kingdom Hearts. Though I would like to actually try that ice cream out sometime.....Just that it's apparently only sold at Tokyo Disneyland (hence its appearance in the games).

Aha shes technically not even mine, she started showing up a while ago and just meow at the door so i let her in, now she stays at my place for about a month at a time than disappears for a while. I just call her sometimes cat.

The thing about the government's mindset is that they believe sending "offenders" to prison camps is somehow protecting the human rights of the rest of the population.

After I wrote my comment about not finding more, I sat down to do a better search. It's come up with some interesting stuff. Junji Ito has put out some crazy stuff. I read through "Yami no Koe" and "Shin Yami no Koe", which are short story collections and "The Enigma of Amigara Fault", which is slightly longer. They're all not bad, though Amigara Fault has a very Uzumaki feel to it, with the extreme body horror and the unbreakable sensation of being pulled to something.

There's a tumblr called "Hell Yeah Horror Manga" that's been useful. Just be warned about the little Ringu brat who tries to break through your computer screen. LCDs aren't expensive, you little tart! Cut it out! *fist shake*
