She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, and knelt to the ground. The ground was wet from the dozens of thunderstorms that passed over through the night.Her sister knelt down beside her, and took a deep breath before speaking.
"We are so close to our new home!
She looked down, ashamed of the few tears washing down her face.
"Lidi, do you not remember our old home? Do you not remember everything we left? Our mother? Our father? Our village? How can you be so excited for what is ahead, when all that is good was left behind?
Lidi sighed and began picking at the grass, pulling blade by blade out.
"Autumn, you know we had to leave. It was the only way to protect our village. Dalagor is after us. And he will not stop until he has us."
"How do we know? We are relying on an old myth from and old book, Lidi! How do we know?"
Lidi sighed once again and took a small book out of the leather pouch strung across her shoulders. She opened it and began reading from it.
"The first and second granddaughters of the first and second villagers of Rey's River must not live. For they are what Dalagor is after, and they will put all around them to death for this reason. The Dalagor needs the power they are born with in order to exist among us. He will send his warriors after those powers, whatever the cost."
Autumn had heard this a hundred times.
"It could be a fairytale. Just because it's written doesn't mean it's true. Just because Granny and Gramps were the first to settle in the area of Rey's River, doesn't mean that we have some power that Dalagor wants."
"Maybe, but we can't take the chance. We must head to the City of the Light. The Light Warriors can protect us there."
Autumn gave up the fight. There was not turning back now, either way. They had already traveled to far. She stood up, and silently began walking up the hill. Once she reached the top, she stopped.
There in front of her, was a great city. All of the buildings were white, and a large gate surrounded it.
Autumn reached out and held onto Lidi's hand, and took a step forward.
