it seems like "stop" doesn't have a hard T like "top" just cuz there's an S in front of "stop" which softens the sound a little, but the sound is still a T, not a D or any other sound/letter. the egyptians had the first written language, i think, but their written language might've been more like pictures than sounds, like chinese. what is IPA?

by purely phonetic, i mean that the language spells all words as they sound. english isn't purely phonetic because we have silent E's, and some letters have more than one sound, and a bunch of useless letters like Q and X which are unnecessary because they are just extra letters for the sounds "kw" and "ks."

thanks for the comment. sorry if i already posted that to your profile and i forgot. gaia wasn't notifying of new comments for awhile. i'm glad someone likes my post style, since mostly everyone else complains it burns their eyes. sweatdrop since you're a linguistics major, i have a question for you: do you know of any language which is purely phonetic?
