The Tinker's Toolshop |
This is my journal, for me to talk about random stuff. I'm into mostly RPGs, good books, L5R, and various and sundry NCSoft MMORPGs. |

Lineage II Stuff
So my artisan is busily and happily making monies. Lots and lots of filthy earth monies... er, I mean adena. Yay for DSS and DBSPS recipes.
In the mean time, I've made a Dark Elven Mystic alt, who shall become a Shilen Oracle and then a Shilen Elder. Vampiric Rage for the win and I wanted a buffer alt anyhow... that toon is level 16 now.
However, due to finding such a cool spot to level to 20, I'm thinking of also starting an alt to be my offensive magic alt. I like magic users, so yeah, most of my alts shall probably end up being mystics (Aside from my crafters, like Roiran, the Dwarven Artisan). However, I don't know if I should start yet another alt... what do you guys think? Also, should I go for Human, Light Elven, Dark Elven, or Orcish for my offensive magic user?

I'm going to learn to make art!
You know, I've never been an artistic person... I took computer science (programming, techsupport, network) and architecture classes in high school instead of art. Ask people who know me in real life and, well, I may not be as bad as Gene Wilder's character from Blazing Saddles, but I really can't hold my hand steady. So I've never been all that good at drawing, either.
However, I play a lot of RPGs (Could you tell?) and character portraits add a lot to a character. I mean, I can just show everyone what my character looks like rather than trying to verbally describe how he appears to me. Also, I do write on occasion and... illustrations are neat for that, even if I'm the only one who ever reads any of it. And, I'll admit, it'd help me earn a bit more Gaian Gold if I could draw or make character portraits, which is neat... I like stuff, even pixalated virtual stuff.
So I've applied for a few of the 'learn to' art guilds on Gaia (no word back yet, admitedly one of those applications was just sent a few hours ago, the other was sent like a day ago).
So... hmm, yeah, that's basically that. Not really sure where I was going with this...

I'm an artisan! [Lineage II]
Whoo! I finally hit level 19, so I did the Path to Artisan quest and then hit level 20. So now, I'm a Dwarven Artisan!
I get to craft stuff, like real stuff. Stuff that's worth adena and stuff that's worthwhile! WHOO! See, I love playing characters that craft stuff in both pen and paper RPGs (Yeah, I'm that dude playing the wizard/cleric a few levels behind the party cause I make items) and in computer RPGs (Like my cool tech-dwarf in Arcanum), so I'm really excited to get to craft.
However, it's like painfully bloody slow... so, Soulshot Grade D is a great money making tool for low level artisans, like me. A dwarven artisan can make the stuff for like 10 to 11 adena a piece and sell it, easy, at 14 adena each. Notably, I make it in 156 unit batches and people tend to buy it in 1k batches, minimum. You see, soulshot basically doubles the damage of your weapon, pretty neat, huh? Yeah, that also makes it like MMORPG crack. The grade refers to what level of weapon it works on (No Grade, then D through A and finally up to S grade equipment).
DSS (D-grade soulshot) is like the most purchased in game item in Lineage II. It's not that hard (It'll take a few days, unless you're like me and spend a twice that long selling stuff in towns...) to hit level 20, which puts you into D-grade. You won't hit C-grade until 40 and, notably, it'll take a month or two of work to get there (as opposed to the few days for D grade) so even casual players and people who eventually give up hit D-grade and, therefore, use DSS. Once one hits a new grade you also don't have to use the new gear and a lot of people don't as even low end C-grade stuff is going to cost you like 3 times (or more!) of what some of the top end D-grade stuff shall, not to mention... DSS is way cheaper than CSS. Meaning a lot of non-casuals, newbies, and even long time regulars on alt characters end up using DSS. See, almost everyone uses DSS! It's great!
The problem? I have a total of... 188 MP and it takes 40 MP to make 156 DSS (156 is the unit I make from the recipe... so I don't get an option there) and my current investment is in enough to make... 300 units (That's 300 times 156 for the math impaired). 40 times 300... well, hmm, something here tells me that's a larger number than 188, a much larger number. It is, in fact, almost 64 times larger. Making stuff is slow. I really need to befriend a human or elven mystic who can cast MP regen buffs on me.
