Stealing Souls Chpt. 8
~Hakuro's POV~
~No...~ Hakuro thinks to himself quietly. He had been hiding his growing fears from Norry.
~Did I really think this could be avoided?~ He asks himself without speaking. Hakuro looks towards his sister, pain and fear in her eyes, as well as tears. She turns to walk inside, and he follows, without a word to his parents who were crossing the parking lot. Kona strolls calmly out the door, but Norry runs past her, losing her grip on her only remaining calmness. Hakuro slowly walks to Kona, spinning her around and following her inside.
"What's going on Hakuro?" Kona asks, shocked.
"Guess who's here," he says calmly, walking Kona inside. They walk back into the visitation room, to find Keith walking towards them.
"What's going on? What's wrong with Norry?" He asks quickly.
Kona whispers in his ear, and his face immediatly shades red. The door swings open and a cool breeze from outside fills the warm room. In walks Laura and Daniel, Norry and Hakuro's parents. Laura walks up to her brother-in-law Keith and shakes hands with him, Keith returning the gesture politely. Hakuro looks over to see that Norry had returned to the room, controlling her anger. But her and Kona were still glaring viciously at his parents. He flinches, and quickly looks back towards Keith.
~How much longer can he hold his temper?~ Hakuro wonders fearfully. Keith walks to the front of the room, and everyone takes a seat in some fold-out metal chairs in the back. Kona, Hakuro, and Norry all stand together on the side because of the lack of seats.
"Well, let's get started." Keith begins. "We all know why we're here obviously. Evelyn was in a tragic accident, a hit and run commited by a drunk driver," he flashed a swift glance towards Laura, but turned away. "I"ll miss her very much. She was an amazing wife, mom, aunt, and many other great things. I honestly don't know what I will do without her. But for now, that's all I have to say, because my tears are all dried out, and I don't want to cause any more pain to people than this already has." With that, he took his seat in the front row of the cold fold-out chairs. Kona walked to the front-center part of the room, and suddenly all eyes flashed to her.
~She looks so......broken.~ Hakuro noted to himself.
"Like Dad said, Mom was a great person, and I couldn't have asked for more." She started, eyes red and watery. "I'm not going to start rambling on about how much we will miss her, and how great she was, because all that is very obvious. I will miss her so much. This," she paused, barely able to breath the sinister word, "death couldn't have taken a better person. I know for a fact that this probably wasn't meant to happen to such a fantastic woman, but it did. I've tried to convince myself that things happen for a reason, but that just doesn't seem logical, atleast not now. Maybe.......maybe I'll never believe it, but she really is gone, and we all need to move on, because that is what mom would want. I know that for a fact. So please, do your best to move on, but don't forget about her, because she is still here, watching over us."
Kona walked back to where she was standing next to Norry, now dripping salty tears. Hakuro looked over to see Norry walking to the front after huggin Kona quickly.
"Kona did a great job explaining, and so did Keith," Norry gestures to them, "and I can't imagine the great pain they are feeling. If you have not already experienced death, can you imagine the great weight thrust upon you? The loss of a loved one is tough to deal with. Aunt Evelyn was more of a mom to me than anyone I know. I was so close to her, and I feel like a part of my heart has been taken right from within my chest. Aunt Evelyn did not deserve to die, no one does. It was a cruel death," Norry slips the hint of hatred into her sentence, "and only a heart-less person could hit another car, and not care about the person they might have just killed. She didn't deserve that. All I can say is, please don't take what you have for granted, because you never know when it might just slip right through your grasp, and be gone forever."
Norry wipes her eyes, smudging eye liner across her cheek, and walks back to Kona, whose tears now dripping from her chin more frequently.
