What is a point guard ? Well, relatively speaking they are usually the smallest players on court. [most NBA PGs are over 6 feet tall, for heaven's sake !][In Miyagi's case.. he's well 168 cm]. They are the people who change the pace of the game. They decide who will get the ball, when and where. They are in charge of each attack. A point guard has to be able to think fast. They have to create opportunities whenever possible so that their team could score.

A point guard has to throw all his selfishness away because a point guard has to think pass first, shot second. This is to make the offense runs smoothly. [See, Miyagi rarely shoots] Point guard controls the tempo of the game. A point guard should always be calm and must be immune under pressure.

Poise and savvy are more important than speed and quickness, because a point guard have to make split-second decisions and make most of the opportunities as they arise. must be unflappable and adaptable. The point guards have to be able to give the ball to whoever he thinks is the perfect player to score. Point guard must know how to handle the ball, to dribble and pass instinctively, and without second thought. He can't look at the ball when he should be looking out for an open teammate. You must be able to control the ball to make sharp pass while dribbling, dribble between your legs, or whatever you need to create the spce you need to set up the play.

He must be able to run a fast break properly. Fast break means to move the ball towards your basket quickly to get an easy shot before the other team has the chance to set up their defense. [As demonstrated by Hanamichi (#17) , Fujima (#11) and Koshino (#1 cool ]. Also no look pass, meaning you don't look directly towards your target, but make a point to looks in different direction in order to confuse the defenders. [As demonstrated by Miyagi (#9, #10,)] A point guard should always try to keep the ball in the center of the court so that he can capitalize on breakdowns of the defense.

» Fujima : He controls the team. He too collects points for Shoyo. Overrall a very skilled player and coach. (eventhough he has not enough experience like the other coaches)

» Sendoh : He is always calm and he has the qualifications needed for a PG. In Kainan vs Ryonan match, he passes first, shot second. He passes to Fukuda even though he used to be the primary point collector. (Even Maki have to admit that he's good...)

» Maki : MVP of the year, what can I say ? Score points and can spot opponents' weaknesses. He also keeps his cool. He knows where his teammates are.

The story is about a boy name Ryota who went to the beach. He met a girl name Ayako at a cove on the beach. Ayako was upset about her mother. She thought that the gift her mother gave her was a gift from her future stepfather to her mother. She threw a pair of earrings into the sea. Ryota noticed the scene so he dived into the sea to recover the earrings. He noticed that Ayako was crying. She was in a place where Ryota had once waited for his brother's return from the sea. His brother died at the sea. But Ryota kept on waiting for his brother a long time ago. 7 years.

Ryota and Ayako became friends. Ryota pierced his ear with a brooch from his nanny and puts on the earring. At the end, Ryota was reading a letter from Ayako. He explains (to the letter..) that the earrings was in fact a gift for her from him.

Miyagi and Hanamichi have one thing in common which makes the two didn't fight anymore. Yup, failure in love. Of course Miyagi can't beat Hanamichi's record. After all, Miyagi has only been dumped by 10 girls, while Hanamichi's record is 50 girls. In fact the first time we meet him is when he was dumped by the 10th girl. [ Sakuragi Gundan was watching him ]. The girl said that she likes someone else. Miyagi fell on his knees with disappointment. She told him that she heard from her friends in Shohoku that Miyagi too likes someone else. Then Sakuragi Gundan came out and celebrate his ... 'achievement'. A fight almost begins. But Yohei stopped it.

Later, we saw Ayako wondering about after school and asked her friends is it true that Miyagi's back in school. Hanamichi came by singing. Ayako asked him what kind of song is that. Then, they both walked together.. to the basketball hall , I guess. As they were walking pass a couple of boys sitting against motorcycles, Ayako gasped. Then Miyagi turned, looked a bit shocked and then burst into tears. "Ayako ! Who is that beside you ?! You were with him when I was in the hospital ?!" Which surprised Hanamichi and Mitsui. From Ayako's expression it didn't looked like she was that enthusiastic to see him. Miyagi's jealousy went overboard and he punched Hanamichi. [ Also look at Miyagi's fights for further fight scene ] The punches and kicks went on and on until both Ayako and Haruko had to yell, "STOP IT !" . Hanamichi and Miyagi both stopped.

In manga #7, Miyagi told Hanamichi how he first sets his eyes on Ayako. Actually Miyagi didn't intend to join the basketball team in high school, but after he sees Ayako....it was love at first sight. *^^* He joins the team with determination that he'll make Shohoku champion.
Miyagi showed true chilvary when he bashes up someone from Mitsui's gang who slapped Ayako and telling her to mind her own business. [ Ayako was only trying to stop the fight... ]. He didn't want to fight at all, but when Ayako stormed over to the scene asking Mitsui's gang what the hell do they want, Tetsuo, Mitsui and Ryu each commented on Ayako, Miyagi automatically challenged Mitsui to a one on one fight. (Which surprises Mitsui).

In manga #9, Miyagi kissed Ayako's picture on his table. Mitsui and Miyagi finally join the team. Rukawa, Hanamichi, Mitsui and Miyagi were arguing about who started the fight and whose fault it was . Anzai Sensei had to punish them from playing the game for the first few minutes ? Ayako told them to stop fighting because this isn't the right time. Rukawa and Hanamichi kept quiet, Mitsui thought it was rude (because Ayako is younger than him ) .. Miyagi smiled, blushing. O_o .
Also when they start to play, when Miyagi has the ball, Ayako gives him words of encouragement. Miyagi turned away from his opponent and faced Ayako. Ayako frowned and told him not to look at her. The opponent was about to steal the ball when Miyagi passes it to Mitsui perfectly.. while still looking at Ayako. [Mitsui scored !]

In manga #10,nothing much happens except when after Miyagi managed to scored, Ayako congratulated him.

Manga #11. Ayako gives words of encouragements to Miyagi which I think it's very nice of her. "Beat Fujima and I'll be number one," Miyagi says to Ayako. *^^* ..

Manga #12,#13,#14, #15, #16 . Nothing actually happened like in the previous mangas because he was concentrating on the Kainan game (which Shohoku lost) and the beginning of a new match.

Manga #17 [Ayako graced the cover!]. Shohoku finally faces Ryonan. The Miyagi-Ayako moment is when Miyagi was introdued to the whole stadium. He high five everyone on the team. (Of course, including Ayako). "Go towards the international level, Miyagi," (?) Ayako said. "Leave it to me, Ayako" .. *o* .

Manga #18, #19, #20. Again nothing happened because of the serious game concertration against Ryonan.

Manga #21. We're are introduced from the first moment Miyagi meets Akagi and all. Miyagi told the team that he'll be the best Point Guard in Kanagawa. Then he rushes over to Ayako to introduced himself. (Kogure was surprised at his speed).

Manga #22. Ayako barges into the bathroom as the players were washing of their sweat. She told Hanamichi it's time for his basic training again. Hanamichi grumbled. Miyagi kicked him in the butt saying he shouldn't contradict Ayako. Hanamichi mumbled that he is Tensai and he doesn't need all these basic trining. Ayako hits him in the head saying he's still a new player. Miyagi agrees with her loudly. They watched Hanamichi trains. Ayako with a paper fan in her hand. Miyagi with a blush on his face.

Also in Manga #22, Miyagi, Rukawa, Mitsui and Hanamichi failed their exams and had to go over to Akagi's house to study. Miyagi looked hard at his exercises, erases off his answer, thinks again and writes. He gives the paper to Ayako for her to check. Ayako praises him saying that his work is good. Why can't he do that during the exams ? Miyagi blushes and said that if Ayako was his teacher, he'll definately get full marks on his exams. [This received some comments from Akagi, Mitsui and Hanamichi, 'suck-up, idiot, ']

Notice the writings on Miyagi's headband. "Gakeppuchi" (try your very best ?). It is the exact words that Ayako wrote on the banner she made, right after the match between Shohoku and Kainan.

Manga #23, Miyagi was about to punch Itakura from Toyotama, when he pulled back after Ayako yelled him not to. ... (that's basically it)

Manga #25.. *^^* Miyagi takes a walk alone to calm himself after waching Sannoh's previous match on tape. Then we see, (from Hanamichi's POV), Miyagi and Ayako walking together in the night ! Hanamichi wondered if Miyagi and Ayako already hooked up ? (Now, Miyagi's POV) Miyagi says he can't believe why are all his opponents so great. Fujima from Shoyo, Maki from Kainan, now Fukatsu from Sannoh. Miyagi sighed about him being at least 10 cm shorter than his opponents. Ayako hits him on the head with her paper fan. Ayako reminded Miyagi about what he had said during the match against Fujima. 'Beat Fujima, and Miyagi will be the champion'. Suddenly Hanamichi sneaks up to Miyagi and laughed loudly saying oh, Miyagi actually haven't suceeded yet, ne ? The three of them walked together with Miyagi disappointed that Sakuragi foiled up his 'moment'. sad

Manga #26. Nothing happened as they were concentrating on beating Sannoh.

Manga #27. Miyagi was frustrated that he can't get through Sannoh's defense and it was a bad start to a game. Anzai Sensei elects him to lead the attacks. Miyagi was shocked. Ayako asked for Miyagi's hand and started to scribble on Miyagi's right hand with Miyagi going 'what are you doing ?!'. Hanamichi called Miyagi down to the court. Miyagi stood there for a moment staring at his hand a smile crept on his face. He closed his hands into a fist and smiled muttering, "Of course," He then grins and told Hanamichi to wait for a signal. (Focus on Ayako) Ayako sighed. Miyagi is short tempered and that will effect his performance. Miyagi stood still, watching his right hand. (Focus on ..) Ayako who was telling Miyagi silently to teach the rest a lesson they'll never forget. Then on Miyagi's hands the words 'No. 1, Guard' were written. *^^*

Manga #30. After suceeded in going through both Fukatsu & Sawakita's defense, Miyagi made an attempt to smile & gives a 'peace' sign at Ayako. Ayako told him to concentrate to the game .

During games which is.. seemingly 'unimportant', Miyagi tends to sneak looks at Ayako whenever he hears her cheering for him. But this NEVER effects his game. But he knows when to be really serious and not do anything that could effect his performance where Ayako concerned. Later in the manga, Miyagi became less .... goofy around Ayako. Ayako doesn't seemed to shared the same affection as Miyagi but only treats him as a friend.

I love them both ! They are the funniest pair on court (aside from Hanamichi and Kiyota, Hanamichi and Rukawa). The starting of their friendship was to a bad start because of some misunderstanding. They were enemies, then the best buds the next day after a night of sharing each other's girl failure experience. Miyagi taught Hanamichi how to fake a move, which Hanamichi uses it against Kainan. [manga #12]. Then when Mitsui and his gang came over to fight, Hanamichi and Rukawa helped Miyagi. (go to fights scenes ). After everything was settled, Shohoku's final team is formed. In the first match, Hanamichi was mad at Miyagi for passing the ball to Rukawa instead of Hanamichi. Miyagi told Hanamichi (angrily) that he can't pass the ball when the defender is right in front of Hanamichi. Hanamichi asks, is Miyagi doubting him ? Then Anzai Sensei asked if they were fighting again. (If they fight they can't play). Miyagi and Hanamichi quickly smiled (and bonded) saying they have the best friendship in the entire team. Yep, that's what they are.Miyagi and Hanamichi provide us with very much laughter !

One such moment is when Shohoku was against Sannoh. [manga #25 and #26] Miyagi told Hanamichi to wait for a signal from him. Then suddenly, Miyagi scrunched up his face. Hanamichi was surprised for a moment then he realizes that ... 'that's the signal !' Hanamichi too scrunched up his face like Miyagi. Miyagi hurled the ball towards the rim and Hanamichi slams it in ! Much later, Miyagi takes a shot, but Sawakita blocks the shot. The ball hits Hanamichi's face and bounced into the rim.. amazingly ! (Everyone was of course, shocked) Then Miyagi and Hanamichi told (bragged to) Sawakita that they did that on 'purpose' because only a true talent could use these opportunities to gain an advantage. Sawakita wonders are they for real ?

Miyagi praises Hanamichi and gives Hanamichi words to motivates him. (unlike Rukawa who motivates Hanamichi in a totally different way... ^^; wink . Like when they were up against Shoyo. Miyagi gives Hanamichi a thumbs up sign and told him that Hanamichi's rebounds are well known in Kanagawa. Hanamichi beams. When they were against Ryonan, Hanamichi accidently made Uozomi from Ryonan commits the 4th foul. Miyagi told him it was a great move. Hanamichi beams (again).

I love the ... coorporation between Miyagi and Hanamichi. While trying to get through Shoyo's defense, Miyagi made a no look pass (?) to Hanamichi and Hanamichi scored ! When they were up battling against Kainan, toward the very last 26 seconds of the game, everyone thought it's over for Shohoku when Takesado managed to take the rebound. But Miyagi appeared suddenly from below and hits the ball from Takesado's hands. Hanamichi caught the ball and fakes a move and scored !! Of course you can't deny the moment when Miyagi hurled the ball high up in order for Hanamichi to slams in in... but Hanamichi leaped , caught the ball and landed back on his feet. (It's against the rules to do that). [manga #24 against Toyotama]

Since Rukawa often keeps to himself, the only time you'll see Rukawa communicates is on the court. (Usually to Hanamichi though ^^; wink . Miyagi makes many passes to Rukawa whenever Rukawa's open and vice versa. I like their coorporation during the match against Toyotama and Ryonan. That's basically all, I guess.

Off to a very, very bad start. They both fought until the two was admitted to the hospital. Mitsui hated Miyagi because Miyagi was now the new star of the team (It was suppose to be Mitsui's place until he injured his knee and quit the team). But all that end when Mitsui realizes that he wants to play basketball again. Miyagi and Mitsui sometimes change insults towards each other. I like when the two coorporate during the Shoyo game. [manga #11] Miyagi tosses the ball to Mitsui, Mitsui steps out the three-point arc and scored three points ! And the time when the two along with Akagi against Ryonan. Akagi is the captain of the team. Akagi is unstoppable when he is under and near the hoop. Miyagi often passes to him to score because he knows can depend on Akagi. Miyagi calls him 'danna'.

Yatsuda is also in Year 2. Before Miyagi came into the team, Yatsuda was the Point Guard. He was the first one who greets Miyagi when Miyagi was back from the hospital. He lost to the one on one game against Miyagi. He was the fastest player on the team before Miyagi came back. (obviously, the first year players were quite shock at this). And when Shohoku was up against Toyotama. Yatsuda was sent into court to control the game. This is because Miyagi can't control his temper at that time which can badly effect the game as PG are suppose to be in charge of each attack. Yatsuda managed to do well in his job and calms Miyagi down.

Friends. Same class. Miyagi has a crush on Ayako while Ayako doesn't seems to see Miyagi anything more than a friend. Maybe, maybe not.

Kenji Fujima. Point Guard (also coach and captain) for Shoyo team. I don't know why Miyagi is so competitive of him. Maybe Miyagi wanted to show Shoyo also the audience that he too can play as well as the tall ones even though he is only 168 cm. When Miyagi succeeded in breaking Shoyo's defense and scored, he turned to Fujima and pointed towards him, glaring at the same time. Fujima didn't play during the first half. When he saw that Shohoku was leading then he came out and play. When Fujima stole Hanamichi's ball and ran towards the other side of the court, Miyagi catches up to him in an amazing speed.

It's a one on one fight now. Miyagi faces Fujima watching his every move. Miyagi grinned and told himself that Fujima didn't want to pass the ball to his teammates on purpose to challenged the-10cm-shorter Miyagi. Suddenly Fujima came to a halt and shoot totally taking on Miyagi by surprise. Even Miyagi admitted to himself that Fujima was too quick and it would be rather difficult to guard him.

This whole game belongs to each of the players. Miyagi was in the spotlight for a moment, so did Mitsui , Hanamichi, Akagi, and Rukawa. Miyagi helped a lot in the game. One as such, he passes the ball to Hanamichi so fast, even Hanamichi didn't expect it ! Hanamichi scored ! He steals the ball out of Takano's hands. Miyagi passes through Hanagata's and Nagano's defense and scores ! Miyagi stayed throughout the game along with Akagi and Rukawa. Mitsui was too tired, & Hanamichi was thrown out.

In the tv series, Miyagi too had to face Fujima in the Ryonan+Shoyo vs Shohoku match. (just a note)

Shinichi Maki. Point Guard for Kainan team. Maki is MVP of the year. Maki succeeded in guarding Miyagi so that Miyagi can't control the game in whole. Miyagi missed a chance at the ball when he talking to Hanamichi, Maki easily sends the ball straight to Kiyota through an unsuspecting Miyagi. Miyagi was so tired of guarding Maki who was 16cm taller. Miyagi did give a lot of help to Shohoku. Maki proved too much for Miyagi to handle.

Yoshinori Miyamatsu. Shooting Guard of Kainan. Shorter & less built than Miyagi [than anyone in SD!] but possesses amazing skills to shoot three pointers. Miyagi had to take care of Miyamatsu to prevent him from shooting. Miyamatsu did fooled Miyagi when he wanted to shoot a three point. Miyagi leaped to block him, but Miyamatsu passed the ball to Maki. Miyamatsu too proved that he could guard Miyagi. Miyagi can't get pass him at one time. [ ONE TIME !]

The whole game clearly belonged to Rukawa. But Miyagi did help to get the ball, which Akagi jump ball for it, and passed it to Rukawa through all the Kainan players when the match began. Miyagi give Hanamichi words to encourage Hanamichi and it works too. Miyagi too did contribute during the very last 26 seconds of the game to retrieve the ball from Takesado and managed to slapped it out of his hands giving Hanamichi the benefit to score. This is a very exciting game. Unfortunately, Shohoku lost.

Tomoyuki Uekusa. Point guard for Ryonan team. Well, not much of a fight here. Just both of them guarding each other.

Hiroaki Koshino. Shooting Guard for Ryonan team. When Koshino stole the ball from Hanamichi and raced to the other side of the court, Miyagi quickly catches up to him. Everyone was shocked at Miyagi's amazing speed. Koshino proceeded to shoot but Miyagi leaped higher and managed to block the shot. (Fujima was surprised at this). Later, after Miyagi committed four fouls, Miyagi didn't dare to go against Koshino as he was afraid he would be thrown out of the game.

Akira Sendoh. Point Guard or Forward for Ryonan team. Miyagi has the ball and raced towards the net. Sendoh was guarding in front of him. It was one on one. Miyagi was too fast for Sendoh ; Miyagi shoots and scored ! Miyagi told Sendoh it wasn't that easy to block his attack. Later, Sendoh managed to tricked Miyagi so that Miyagi will have a foul. Yikes ! Miyagi has four fouls now !

The whole match had Akagi, Rukawa , Hanamichi, and Kogure in the spotlight. Mitsui was hurt and as taken out of the game. During the game, Miyagi managed to steal the balls between the passes of Ryonan. He helped a lot during the scoring of the points of Akagi, Rukawa, & Hanamichi.

Daijiro Itakura. Point Guard for Toyotama. First meets Miyagi when Shohoku and Toyotama bumped into each other before the game. Itakura accidentally bumps into Miyagi and playfully told Miyagi that he can't take care of Miyagi. (teasing about Miyagi's height) Miyagi glared at Itakura and said, Itakura ought to buy himself a ticket back home for tomorrow. This is probably the opponent that really makes Miyagi mad. In this match Miyagi was unable to control his temper and often makes unthinkable decisions and it effected his performance in the game. The game starts, Miyagi has the ball, and was supposed to pass it straight to Rukawa.

But first he waltzes around with the ball to show Itakura that he too, is great. Miyagi failed to pass the ball to Rukawa after 'his show'. Later, Itakura managed to shoot while Miyagi was guarding him and pushed Miyagi down with his body weight. Itakura gives Miyagi a thumbs down sign and said that it's too bad. Miyagi is angrier now. When Yatsuda came down to the court, he managed to calm Miyagi down who was facing Itakura at that time. Much later, when Miyagi sees the opportunity to shoot, Itakura succeeded in blocking his shot pushing Miyagi until he fell down , crashing into the chairs behind.

Miyagi lost his patience and tried to punch him. But he pulled away but continued glaring towards Itakura. Then, after words of wisdom from Anzai Sensei, Miyagi managed to control his temper and calm down. When Itakura teased Miyagi about his height again, Miyagi glared at him and asked 'what did you say ?', ignoring Itakura's comment. He finally calms down and he was able to run through Itakura. Later, when Itakura breaks Miyagi's defense and scores, he gave Miyagi a thumbs down sign again. Miyagi told himself to calm down. Itakura again manages to shoots while Miyagi tried to block him. Then, Miyagi was able to raced through Itakura with his speed and helped Akagi and Mitsui scores a 3 pointer ! No one could compete with Miyagi's speed on the court !

The match clearly belongs to Rukawa and Hanamichi. Miyagi as usual, helps the team but in this game he tends to make a few mistakes, as he wasn't thinking clearly. He was 'blinded' by his anger for Itakura. Miyagi once threw the ball high up towards the rim so that Hanamichi could dunk it in, but Hanamichi grabbed the ball and landed down on his feet, something which is a foul.And when Miyagi passed the ball to Hanamichi again, Hanamichi shoots but the ball 'flew' too far and landed on Kiyota who was sitting in the audience above.

Issei Fukatsu. Point Guard for Sannoh team. Also captain of the team. Miyagi was really afraid of Fukatsu after he saw the past match between Sannoh and Kainan. Even Miyagi have to bow to Fukatsu's greatness. But all of his fear vanished after Anzai Sensei motivated him to fight and that Miyagi was the best. Miyagi faces Fukatsu. Fukatsu tried to steals the ball away but Miyagi managed to avoid all that. He passes through Sannoh and shoots. But Sawakita blocks Miyagi's attack. Fukatsu can sense Miyagi's weaknesses. Fukatsu drained out most of Miyagi's strength during the first half. In the second half of the game, Miyagi is more alert of Fukatsu and Sawakita.

Eiji Sawakita. Small Forward for the team. Blocks Miyagi's attack. From times to times, helped Fukatsu to guard Miyagi so that Miyagi have no access to get through to assist other players. Miyagi accidentally pushes Sawakita while trying to get through them and it was declared a foul. But came a time when Sawakita wanted to guard Miyagi again, but it was too late. Miyagi examines his opponent's weakness and gets through Fukatsu and Sawakita and raced forward. Another player tries to steals the ball, but Miyagi cleverly maneuvers the ball and passes it to Rukawa.

During the whole game, Miyagi manages to steal the balls between the passes of Sannoh team. For the first time, he seemed to be really, really tired unlike his previous games. Anzai Sensei put Miyagi in charge to lead each attack. Miyagi proved he could do it as Akagi was busy with Kawata, Rukawa was busy with Sawakita, and Mitsui was too tired. Miyagi and Hanamichi provide many hilarious moments but it all scored points !! Like the time when Miyagi gives Hanamichi the secret sign to attack. And after Sawakita slaps the ball out of Miyagi's hands and blocks the shot, the ball hits Hanamichi's face and bounced into the rim, scoring Shohoku 2 points ! Hanamichi calls it 'slamdunk with his face'. Miyagi makes a lot of assists here which later give points to Shohoku !

At first he wanted to fight Ookutsu, but Yohei broke it up. Plus, Miyagi was still fresh from the hospital after the fight with Mitsui. Later, when the group of seniors that Miyagi fought knew he was out of the hospital, Miyagi found out that Mitsui (who was their leader) also was out from the hospital. Mitsui wanted to continue the fight. Actually the fight is about the group of seniors who wanted to teach Miyagi a lesson for being rude. Miyagi was surrounded by a gang of 6 people who wanted to beat him up. He knew he couldn't fight all of them up, so Miyagi only took care of Mitsui, beating Mitsui only even though the other seniors was taking care of him at the same time. So, both Miyagi and Mitsui were admitted to the hospital. Later while Miyagi was bashing up Hanamichi, Miyagi accidentally got Mitsui into the fight. Mitsui and gang decided to take revenge on both Hanamichi and Miyagi.

Upon viewing Hanamichi and Ayako walking together, Miyagi looked a bit shocked... then suddenly he burst into tears and pleaded Ayako to tell him who was that, walking beside her. Mitsui and Hanamichi was a little surprised. Without warning, Miyagi punched Hanamichi's left jaw causing Hanamichi to fall down hard. I guess Miyagi was blinded by his jealousy because he seemed to not be hearing what Ayako was saying (she told him to stop and said it was all a big misunderstanding)[ might I remind you that it's not a two way crush ]. When Hanamichi sat up, Miyagi kicked him in the jaw again which now cause Hanamichi to land in the bushes behind. Then when Miyagi's back was turned, Hanamichi leaped from the bushes and kicked back Miyagi, which caused Miyagi to fall on top of Mitsui, and they both knocked down a motorcycle. Miyagi stood up in order to punch Hanamichi, but accidentally elbowed Mitsui. Miyagi turned his back to Mitsui and Hanamichi took the chance to turn Miyagi's head facing Hanamichi and gave him one of Hanamichi's special head bang. Miyagi wailed in pain. Then Hanamichi accidentally knocked over Nori (one of the seniors) and Nori fainted with a nosebleed. Hanamichi lifted Nori above his head and threw Nori towards Miyagi. Fortunately, Miyagi was able to dodged the senior. (unfortunately for Nori, though) Then when they wanted to continue the fight, Ayako and Haruko came to the rescue ! Obviously, both didn't want to disobey each other's crushes, right ?

This whole scene took place in the basketball court. Everyone was surprised at Miyagi's attendance. Hanamichi couldn't believe that this 'damned kid' is in the basketball team. Yatsuda was the first one to greet Miyagi and Miyagi challenged Yatsuda to a game. Miyagi wins much to the surprised of the first year basketball team members. Kogure commented that Miyagi may be a troubled boy but he sure has the ability to be captain of Shohoku's basketball team. Hanamichi heard this. Hanamichi just pushed Yatsuda away and told Miyagi that he will be the captain for Shohoku's basketball team. Miyagi narrowed his eyes and asked Hanamichi if he would like a one on one game.

Hanamichi has the first try. Miyagi asked him how can Hanamichi be in the team. Hanamichi answered Akagi invited him to. Miyagi glared at Hanamichi and told him that having a big, tall body doesn't necessarily makes him a talented basketball player. Hanamichi laughed and called Miyagi an idiot. Hanamichi told Miyagi that he was the one who scored the 'almost winning point' against Ryonan. Then, Miyagi easily slapped the ball out of Hanamichi's hands. Hanamichi was shocked and asked how did he steal the ball. So now they switched and Miyagi plays the offensive side. Let Hanamichi defend. Hanamichi did slapped the ball out of Miyagi's hands but it was considered against the rules, plus Miyagi's hands were sore after that. So, Miyagi pushed Hanamichi hard to retrieve the ball. Hanamichi returned the 'favor'. This continues on until Akagi came and bonked both 'idiots' on the head.

When Miyagi head over to Anzai sensei to apologize and greet him, Hanamichi told Miyagi don't pretend to be such a goody goody. Hanamichi then told Anzai sensei to not accept a delinquent boy like Miyagi into the team. Miyagi scolded Hanamichi for treating the coach that way. Hanamichi went on about Miyagi have no strength, and he's a bad influence and it would be better if Miyagi just steps out. Then Miyagi pinched and pulled Hanamichi's cheeks saying Hanamichi should be the one who steps out, calling him an idiot. Hanamichi strikes back with the same attack. And each of them said if the other should quit the team, then he'll let go of the other's cheek. then each went on how they are using 50%, 40%,and 30% of their energy. All this stops when Ayako hits Miyagi's head with her paper fan. Miyagi lets go of Hanamichi. Hanamichi claims victory silently. Hanamichi noticed Miyagi's reaction's to Ayako's paper fan hit. After a night sharing each other's girl failure experience, the next day, Miyagi, and Hanamichi acted as if there was no fight ever occured between them and became friends & teammates.

Miyagi was shocked to see Mitsui standing there with his gang. Mitsui asked if he could 'play' too. Miyagi pleaded Mitsui not to disturb the rest of the team and to not destroy the place. Miyagi can't afford to be in the hospital now. Mitsui told Miyagi he will destroy the basketball court. Mitsui then kicked a basketball towards Miyagi. Mitsui asked one of his gang members, Ryu to take care of Rukawa as earlier Rukawa threw a ball towards Mitsui, which he was able to avoid. Miyagi told him this has nothing to do with the rest of the players. One of them held Miyagi's face up and Mitsui banged his head into Miyagi's face. Miyagi's face bleeds and Mitsui proceeded to punch him in the face. Now we know, that if Miyagi ever fights again, the whole basketball team will be disband.

Then Tetsuo, one of the biggest members took out a broom and told Mitsui to use it on Miyagi's head. Mitsui lifted the broom high up but Hanamichi stopped him. (Hanamichi broke the broom with his bare hands, for heaven's sake !). Miyagi is still holding on to his bleeding nose and mouth. Rukawa bashes Mitsui up while Miyagi pleaded Rukawa not to fight. Then another senior came but Rukawa managed to held the senior's hand tight. Ayako came to the rescue and told Rukawa to stop as it would be even more difficult to stop if this goes on. Rukawa obeyed Ayako's order and let's go of the senior's hand. But the senior slapped Ayako telling her to mind her own business. Miyagi lost control and stormed over to the senior and kicked him hard. and then continued to bash him up. Now things are getting out of control.

Rukawa's down as he was beaten up by Tetsuo. A member was hurt. Ayako stormed over to the gang and yelled isn't this enough already, and what do they want. Tetsuo, Mitsui, and Ryu each commented on Ayako, which made Miyagi very.. well.. mad and told them that this was between him and them only. Miyagi challenged Mitsui to a one on one fight. Tetsuo grabbed Miyagi's arm and tries to punch him but Miyagi ducks, avoiding the punch. Miyagi tried to punch back but Tetsuo blocks it with his arm. Miyagi tries to kick Tetsuo but Tetsuo proved to be very strong and beats Miyagi up until Miyagi can't stand up anymore. Miyagi was thrown towards Hanamichi, who then took care of the problem...

Proud to say, Miyagi fulfills every qualifications on being a PG. He's fast, quick thinking, makes use of every opportunities, his eyes are like a hawk's eyes, he never left in a middle of a game, packed with stamina, and etc..etc.. (except he doesn't shoots much) So it doesn't surprise me much that he is captain of Shohoku after Akagi left. (well.. maybe a little surprised...) Miyagi is probably the fastest player in the court.

He is able to think unselfishly and thinks pass first, shot second. He rarely makes mistakes in passing the ball to whoever is capable of scoring. He is quick thinking, like the time when everyone thought it was over for Shohoku when Takesado from Kainan managed to grabbed the ball in the last 26 seconds. Miyagi knows that Takesado would think that it's all over as Kainan has the ball, so Miyagi ran towards Takesado and hits the ball from his hands. Hanamichi caught the ball and scored ! *o* .

Sure it doesn't puts a person in the spotlight if he doesn't slamdunks or shoots, but remember that Miyagi do contribute to these attacks. I know Miyagi can't slamdunk. He just makes simple layups. Miyagi have sharp eyes and is able to spot the opponent's weaknesses or an open teammate. E.g. Miyagi spots Sawakita's weaknesses. [manga #30]. Hanamichi. Sawakita's afraid of Hanamichi. Miyagi uses this against Sannoh. Also during the Sannoh match, Anzai Sensei puts Miyagi in charge of the team's attack.

Miyagi doesn't look at the ball while he's dribbling it, and he passes the ball instinctively, like he has eyes everywhere. He is able to spot any open teammates. He is like.. the coach on the court. He manages to keep his cool, except for the time when Shohoku was against Toyotama. If you notice, he is never out in a middle of a game before. (Hanamichi = thrown out [#11], injured back [#30], Mitsui = too tired [#11,#21] , Rukawa = too tired [#15], Akagi = injured ankle [#13,#16]). Miyagi is always packed with stamina and goes on even though he's tired.

As I say, I wasn't that surprise to see Miyagi as captain. (O_o) Because he is able to lead the team and is going to be one hell of a captain.

As a side note, Miyagi is a Leo. And as many of you know, Leo has the capability to be a leader. They can sometimes be bossy but the have leadership qualities. This may be a little proof why Miyagi is perfect as the new captain. Well, if you believe in it enough. ^_~

Nothing is known about Miyagi's family or his background. (Unless 'Piercing' is his story). When Sakuragi Gundan peeped to see the unlucky guy who was dumped by a girl, well.. that's when we're introduced to Miyagi. Sakuragi Gundan congratulated him for being rejected by 10 girls. Miyagi grabbed a hold of Ookutsu's wrists and asked if they wanted trouble. The two almost got into a fight but Yohei said to just let it go.

Miyagi dreams to be the best Point Guard in Kanagawa. He even shouted this out loud while he was playing.. which startled Maki & Fujima . (because both of them are PGs and are much more experience & a year older than Miyagi). With that he had to challenge, Fujima from Shoyo, Maki from Kainan, Uekasa from Ryonan, Itakura from toyotama and Fukatsu from Sannoh. Miyagi is also known for his agility and he is very, very fast. Both physically and mentally (when it come to basketball). Although he did fail in his exams.... No, he's not that dumb, but just plain lazy. After all he did pass his exam later. He was appointed Team Captain, when Akagi resigned from the basketball team.

Miyagi is a loyal person. Why ? Well, maybe not so.. . Punching Hanamichi just because he was walking besides Ayako is going overboard, but this shows how much Miyagi cares for Ayako. He's loyal to the basketball team. When Mitsui & his gang came to destroy the basketball court/team, Miyagi pleaded them not to fight because this will all end the life of Shohoku's basketball team. Even though when Mitsui bashes Miyagi up, Miyagi didn't strike back... At least not until this senior slaps Ayako away telling her to mind her own business. Miyagi strikes back. This also shows Miyagi's chivalrous side. Also when Miyagi challenged Mitsui to a one on one fight because of.. well.. Ayako.

Also when Hanamichi teased Miyagi because of failure in love / Ayako, Miyagi turns around and tears streamed down his cheeks. He shared his girl failure experience with Hanamichi in which Hanamichi cried and says that he understands. [O.o]. Yes, Miyagi is sensitive when it comes to... love.

Miyagi tends to get mad but usually he is always cool and calm. Unless someone agitates him. [e.g. Itakura][see opponent] And proven, he's a quite forgiving person. [ like everyone else in Shohoku, except for a certain Sakuragi Hanamichi against a Rukawa Kaede & vice versa] Miyagi forgives Mitsui for what Mitsui has done to him. But at times they do argue. ^^*

Miyagi also doesn't like it when people think he's too short to play basketball and often plays his best to defeat every PG in every team. [e.g. Fujima, Itakura, Fukatsu]. He doesn't go overboard with this, but he wants to show what he can do to the rest. [ See opponents ] . He too said out loud that he's the best Point Guard in Kanagawa. This startled Maki, saying that Miyagi is still young to be considered the best. (true, true) And Fujima (who wasn't even in the stadium) stops from his jog for a moment as if he can hear what Miyagi has said all the was from the stadium. That was funny !

This will only focus on Miyagi's appearance only.. like the title says, the outside . *^^*. I know.. I'm so obsessed that I notice every little thing.. Anyway, this part is probably boring.

Miyagi has one distinguishing mark. His left ear is pierced. At the beginning of the story, Miyagi spotted earring studs on each ear. But in manga #7, he slowly lost the stud on his right ear. (actually the stud on his right ear keeps on disappearing and appearing in manga #7)

Half shave head, wavy brown hair. He has this lazy eyes. and his eyebrows are slightly in a sharp curve towards the end. His face shape isn't long and ovalish like Hanamichi, Mitsui, and Rukawa. It's just.. ovalish. He has this... bad boy look. I love it when he grins or when he does something stupid. (especially when ever he's with Hanamichi) Kakoii !

He always wears two wristbands on his left arm whenever he's playing. And he's the third shortest among the whole team, and the shortest among the five main players. If you have notice, Miyagi's the one who usually wears slightly different from the rest. When the others wears button down shirt, Miyagi wear a T-shirt, when the rest wears pants , Miyagi wears shorts, when the others wears their school jackets, Miyagi just prefers to be without it, wearing only the basketball jersey..
(Hanamichi is the other one !) *.* !
