How: The dark night well hid young ANBU member Kurouta Akira as she reported the results of a mission to the Raikage, the man who had supressed her family for a forbidden jutsu they were creating that was supposedly good. This is what Kuro was told as a child and grew up believing. Upon the Raikage discovering the activities going on, he tried to assassinate some of the Akira clan. Kurouta, in belief that the jutsu was beneficial though it was actually evil and cruel, turned against the kage and tried to assassinate him which led to the deaths of his body guards, some of them, her own family members, and an injury of the kage before she was exiled.
