NIN With Teeth Tour 2005
I was afraid to lose the chance to buy a ticket with the scalper. I have a natural revolting emotion against scalpers. I want to claw their eyes out. I should be able to buy those same tickets they're holding for the normal price, if it wasn't because they bought them, and now they're making twice as much on them. Jackasses. Then again, their redeeming quality is that if you want that ticket so badly you'll buy it.

I held out. I walked past him. I was going to get a ticket somehow, and not from a damned scalper selling a $40 ticket for $100. So, I made it to the box office, and got in line. The show was not sold out! My hands finally got to touch the golden Ticket! (for $45). I got stageside seating...obstructed view, and alone, to boot. But I had a ticket. I was excited. There was another line to get into the venue. I sneaked into the section my two friends had tickets for, and sat next to them. Luckily nobody came to claim my new seat. Promptly at 9 pm the lights went off, and the sudden and deafening roar of the crowd was already music to my ears.

The Opening song was "Love is not Enough" again. Trent was there, I could see him! and earlier in the day I wasn't even thinking that I was going to get to come to the concert! I was there, so very excited. My lungs filled with air, and I joined the crowd with my attempt at the longest scream I could hold. I felt dizzy and swooned afterwards, but I didn't care! I was here! I was with Trent, Live! My infatuation with him is not purely sexual. I believe he is a very intelligent guy, and I think it would be very interesting to hold a conversation with him and hang out.

As the night progressed, I became more and more detached from my normal life. This concert will eventually be a memory, which is why I'm writing this down, so I may read it, and remember it again. Trent had cut his hair short, like a crew cut. His body looks kept up, and frankly quite attractive. And anyway...he was much more energetic than I remember him on the Fragile tour. He looks rejuvenated and clean, and newly motivated. His new team is excellent, Jerome Dillon (drums), Aaron North (guitar), and Alessandro (keyboards, guitar) what awesome performances! I was quite speechless at the energy on the stage. All of the performers were sexy, professional and beautiful to witness live.

Among the songs I remember they played, in no particular order were:

Burn, Terrible Lie, Head Like A Hole, Lost Souls, The March of the Pigs, Closer, Eraser, Reptile, Hurt, The Wretched, Deep, You Know What You Are?, Love is not Enough, With Teeth, Only, The Line Begins To Blur, Getting Smaller, The Hand that Feeds, Right Where It Belongs, Something I can Never Have, The Collector, Ringfinger (I know it as ******** and others as Wish for whatever reason) and one that I didn't recognize.

Then, the ones I'm not quite sure, but I thought I heard (remember, I'm doing this from memory!) Ruiner, I do not want this, The Big Come Down, Where is Everybody? Somewhat Damaged, Even Deeper. I don't know if I missed any, but it certainly means Jerome lost weight during this concert....

Trent was very kind, and apologized for having cancelled the concert in September by saying: "We apologize for last time. Let's try this s**t again!" He also informed us that "You guys get to be the last concert of this tour!" To Which the crowd cheered wildly. They threw several waterbottles into the floor crowd (where I wish I had been), Trent threw his black tambourine into the crowd!

The experience of Eraser and Right Where It Belongs was very interesting. The curtain fell to provide a screen for a slideshow of pictures starting with an x-rayed rabbit and an x-rayed bird of some kind, crawling ants, insects, buffalo on a field, images of a cell, of salmonella, and strange pictures of nature, and insects. For Right Where It Belongs, it started as a repeated image of a ballroom couple dancing in their ballroom clothes, Then images of hundred dollar bills, and birds flying away, and children begging for food, then a beautiful white suburbia family, then a babboon, birds in their habitat. But then there was also the aerial view of a beautiful pine forest, green and...dying due to overharvesting. There were images of Iraq, of the dead from Katrina, of tanks, and explosions, then more images of dollar bills, and that beautiful family again, deformed ducks, fish, washed up trash, homeless people, then a baboon trying to catch a bird. Then again the ballroom couple dancing, eerily to reveal that it is George Bush dancing with his daughter. Then there are images of a pile of children's bodies and more dollar bills, Oil spills and burning forests. Katrina's devastation, war, and ultimately, the final and grand Mushroom Cloud explosion of an atom bomb. By the end of this clip and song, I was crying. I felt that suddendly we were all hypocrits living in our own little world by the fact that we were going to a concert. It made me think about what I can honestly do to make this place a better world...But I've a feeling his message was one of hopelessness and irony.

The Last Song was The Hand That Feeds. Jordie was on loan from A Perfect Circle that night to play bass. Aaron was the best guitar player I've ever seen live. Jerome somehow was able to play a grueling selection from the catalog hand-picked by Trent for the two hours and fifteen minutes straight. What Stamina! no wonder Aaron has dibs on him! Then there is Alessandro hiding behind the keyboards. The concert was awesome. The lighting effects totally cool. I only wish that someday I'll get to go to the aftershow party...or even backstage!. I'll have to work towards that for a chance to converse with the man himself. He's looking good, I tell you! Those arms were glistening in the light, the music pouring out from his soul. Trent is a poem someone needs to write down...that's the fangirl in me talking....As the song ended, Aaron smashed his super-cool guitar on the stage! and Trent followed suit with his, then the microphone, Jordie and Alessandro did as well...and even Jerome...

I went home giddy and my body was spasming in the middle of the night; a sign that I exerted myself on those boots...but it was worth it. Very much. It was the best after-my-birthday-present, and I can dream that it was all for me.

Nine Inch Nails With Teeth Tour 2005
Sunday was the day after my birthday. I had a great week. I went out to eat at fancier restaurants three nights out of the seven, and on my birthday I had a great day. Everyone is doing fine, and things are looking great. But the thing Is, I have to start the story from the beggining...

Back in May, Nine Inch Nails was coming to my town to a rather small venue. Two concerts in a row. I had it all set up to go, but sadly, I was unable to. Lack of tickets, absence of moral support and difficult times made it impossible. Trent realized that the small venues were selling out, and many of his fervent fans were left out in the cold. So he went back to some places with larger venues, and thus, there was a chance for me to go again on September 16th. A large venue, this time. I wanted to go badly, but again, tickets sold out before I could get my hands on one. One of my friends was invited by one of his friends, and I asked him to tell me how it was.

On September 16th the show started with "Love Is Not Enough", continued to a few other songs, then, "Eraser" started. All wasn't well when drummer Jerome Dillon collapsed on stage. Paramedics rushed to the scene, and rescued him from a heart attack. The concert was cancelled. From what I heard there were mixed reactions in the crowd. Booing and clapping, and eventually just dissappointment. The fans left, hopefully worried about Dillon's health. Dillon was then replaced by Alex Carapetis to finish the tour. My dream of seeing Nails in concert for this tour was null. Until the concert was rescheduled for November 20th, the day after my birthday.

I was afraid that the tickets were sold out still. I checked ticketmaster online two days before the concert, and there were plenty of tickets, but my boyfriend wasn't so sure he agreed with me going by myself. I was very jealous that my friend got invited. I wanted to go! All I needed was a little push. Well, Sunday came. I knew it was the day for the Nails concert. I was sitting in my bedroom, trying to console myself about missing the whole event a third time, when my friend called me.

"Are you going to the concert?" I asked him. "Yeah, they're honoring the tickets from last concert". I wanted to go. The idea of watching Trent sing with all that energy, all that motivation behind him in his concerts, I was jealous. There was silence on my end. "Do you want to go? My buddy says it's no problem". I was thrilled. Why not go? my boyfriend was at work, the concert would be over before he even left work. I was going. No matter what. "Yes, I want to go!" I answered more to myself than him. "Cool, then I'll see you at seven thirty". That was it....and now...to make sure there were tickets! I had heard nothing about it selling out, but I wanted to make sure. I jumped out of my chair, and changed into my Nails concert-worthy clothes. My boyfriend's stepdad was in the house. I begged him to take me to the ATM and then the place that suppossedly was still selling tickets, and he agreed. I found no tickets....but I did find information: The Nine Inch Nails concert was NOT sold out yet, and I could get tickets at the door, at the venue itself. Already, I had taken too long to get dressed, and hunting for tickets. I would go to the concert, no matter what....If I got in...that was another story.

I went anyway. Without a ticket, with my heart pumping in excitement and suspense. Will there be tickets? will it be sold out by the time I got there? Will I have to WALK home in my high heeled boots? The truth would be discovered as soon as I got there. There was a long line of cars looking for a parking spot. We were able to secure one for free. Then we walked to the elevator. An equally long line of people walked towards the venue. "Will there be tickets?" I asked the guys. They looked at me helplessly. A man walking towards the parking lot asked the people coming in. "Do you guys have spare tickets? Anyone have a ticket?" he looked desperate. My face contorted in horror. "it's sold out!" I thought to myself "I really hate scalpers" I thought to myself again. But there it was...a scalper ahead of me was making a killing for online tickets. He was suddendly looking friendly...(will be continued)
