How (Not) to Write a Rant on the AMC
Rants are very popular on the AMC. If you want to be a super cool intelligent AMCer and get all the other super cool intelligent AMCers to like you, you have to write rants. Here is a simple guide to help make you more popular.

1. Make a title that has little to nothing to do with the topic. For example, you can have the title complaining about dubs and then have the topic be saying how much you love name changes. This will make it easy to spot anyone that hasn't read the first post and they can then be ridiculed.

2. Don't know your audience. If your target audience is people with low attention spans that get bad grades in English, make your post really long and include lost of big vocabulary words. If anyone is intimidated, make fun of them.

3. Write in n00b speak. Whenever you are displaying the opinion of the opposite side, write it in n00b speak because no one that disagrees with you could possibly be intelligent.

4. Talk about your problems. Write all about how evil fantards are jerks to you. Everyone loves to hear all about your issues and if they don't, they should.

5. Include things you don't want brought up. Write about subjects you don't want people to reply to. When people do respond to those parts of your post, say "You see? People are always talking about this."

6. There are two sides to every issue. Every issue is either black or white. There is no grey. Only one side can be intelligent.

Follow these steps and you'll be on your way to being ruler of the AMC!

Fairy Tales are not the same thing as Folk tales
To put it simply, a fairy tale is a story with mystical creatures and/or events, a folk tale is a story told by oral tradition. Some fairy tales are folk lore, and some folk lore is fairy tales.
The American Heritage? Dictionary of the English Language
fairy tale
n.
A fanciful tale of legendary deeds and creatures, usually intended for children.

The American Heritage? Dictionary of the English Language,
folk tale
n.
A story or legend forming part of an oral tradition

The "Little Mermaid" was first published in 1836, in the second volume of Fairy Tales, Told for Children. In Hans Christian Anderson's own notes, he says that it is not based off any folk tale. He even claims that the positive feedback he relieved is what encouraged him to write more of his own original stories.
The Grimm's Fairy Tales are all also folk lore.
Sleeping Beauty was originally a novel and a fairy tale but the first part of the story became a popular oral story and it became a folk tale. The original novel did share some common characteristics with an earlier Mediterranean myth, but it is still a strikingly different story.
The Stories in Uncle Remus are folk lore, but not fairy tales.
American tall tales are also folk lore, but not fairy tales.
Books such as Alice in Wonderland and Wonderful Wizard of Oz are sometimes considered fairy tales. Unlike folk lore, many fairy tales have definite origins.

Mythology was told by oral tradition so it may also be considered folk lore, but it is part of a religion so it would not be considered fairy tales.

OmG itz different stylez
I am sick of people acting like comparing American animation to Japanese is like evaluating two completly different things. They are the same medium, they have the same purpose, just because they were made in a different country they are suddenly totally different things?
But people are like "oMg itz a different stylez!" The stylistic trends of animation trade off from countries all the time. In the 1970's alot of Japanese animated cartoons looked very similar to the archetype American cartoon: big white eyes with black pupils, athropodic characters, higher frame.
Now when American animation adapts characteristics from the archetype Japanese cartoon, all of a sudden it's "ZomG itz an aMerIcaN aNiMe!" Do you think when the Japanese saw Doraemon they said, "oH mY bUdDaH, iTz A jApAnEsE cArToOn!" stare
But I won't get into animation history here. Comparing Japanese and American animation is not like comparing a motocycle to a 18 wheeler; it is like comparing a Kurosaki to a Harley Davinson. They're all cartoons. Deal with it.

some ideas
I think it is silly that people lump all anime into one; I mean they all say "I like anime," or "I don't like anime" instead of looking at the individuals.
Did you know that I like movies? I like music. I like television shows.
Once someone has an opinion on something, no one is going to change their mind, but if they had no opinion in the first place, it can be shaped. In other words once someone thinks all anime sucks they aren't going to change their mind and we should let them be.
I really can't stand people making general statements, wheather it is a type of media I consume or not but most people aren't going to change their minds.
I can certainly accept that any one person has a certain opinion but when large percent share some ideas I can't undertand. For example I could understand if about a third of Americans didn't want to watch foriegn films but when almost all of them don't it baffles me.
So, you see, it bothers me that so many people "hate" anime, when we are talking about indivual people that I know, of course I will accept it.
