John had never shied away from a challenge, so Havek had made one last trip back, after Cathy had been locked away. He had Kolkea for that, however, so he didn't worry. He came back, leaving Dante to watch over their new realm, to watch his brother graduate high school. When he got there, he immediately lusted after Cassandra Delgado, or "Ed", as she preferred to be called. He took her as something of a relationship, even though they both knew the only part of it was the sex, as she was also sleeping with Dante's youngest brother, Jacob.
While he was back and in hiding, he discovered that John had not been the only child born that night in Michigan; that in fact he was one of a pair of twins, the other of which had appeared to stay with his brother. Havek contracted some help to try to dissuade his new brother from that, but he had proved resourceful, and in the end the gun Havek had provided ended up in the possession of John and his twin, Jerry Patterson.
Havek had waited, and had sent two messages. First, he had gone to John's graduation ceremony. In his time in the other world, both Havek and Dante had acquired strange abilities. One of the ones Havek had was the ability to control the thoughts and actions of others. A simple charm, and chaos and havoc reigned in the school. Eventually, yes, John had overcome his classmates, rendering them all unconscious, but he had been the last standing, losing Uriel, Matt, and James to them in the process. He knew Jerry would be on his way, so he made his appearance quick, giving John an envelope with instructions. He had then issued an order to a man who had become enemies with the brothers, and came back to wait.
Having laid his trap, he enjoyed it so much when he could send the faceless ones after his brother. After all, he knew John would come alone, or at least without Jerry, because Havek had specifically requested it. He hadn't expected the prize: John's beautiful wife, and his seven-year-old son.
He had waited two years for his brother to follow him to the other world, and he would wait more for him to follow him to the Tower. When he got there, they would settle things, once and for all.
