Because.
The Dangers of Eating Out
At around 6:30 AM on Tuesday, March 27th, I woke up feeling sick. At first I thought it was just my normal flu-like sick that I get a few times a year. I felt terrible, in pain, and was not looking forward to school. But eventually the medicine I took kicked in enough that I felt that maybe I could manage to get through the day, so off I went. My first class of the day was Accounting, where my teacher and I had a brief discussion about illnesses since he'd been terribly sick the week before and he told me that if I felt sick I should just not come to school cause it's not worth it. But I hated falling behind and having to catch up, so...

The rest of the school day passed without too much event. I took a few baby aspirin and drank lots of water when necessary and otherwise went about my business and tried to ignore the sickness. Got home, still felt icky, and a few hours later I puked. Yay! All better, right? Heh. I wish.

So that was the general pattern of Wednesday and Thursday as well, with increased pukiness each evening and some dizziness during Piano on Thursday. I could have seen the school doctor then, but I don't like doctors and I'm real good at talking myself out of doing something I don't want to do. Got to Friday, and had a slight change in the pattern....I felt pukey in the morning. How lovely. I dragged myself off to school anyway since I only had a couple of classes. Stopped by the bathroom before heading to the first one to make an attempt to puke so I'd feel better, but no luck. Went to do my last required hour for Tutoring, and that was it for me, I was ready to go home and worry about my Keyboarding class another day because it would take too much effort. *sighs* I should have fought it out...now I'm behind an hour.

And so my Spring Break began. I managed to hold out for a couple more days of steadily increasing pukiness and subsequent starvation before giving in and getting a Doctor's appointment on Tuesday, April 3rd. I went it, filled out forms, answered questions, described my symptoms, got prescribed some anti-nausea medication and blood work tests. The doctor's guesses were, since I assured him I wasn't pregnant, either Gastroenteritis or Hepatitis. Off I went to get my prescription filled and my blood sucked. The lady who did it was very competent, I must admit. It was quick and relatively painless despite my aversion to needles. Watching your blood fly out of you and into a little tube is an interesting experience, and it was zooming. My dad says it's cause they use vacuums.

Anyway, got that all done and went home to try out my medication. An uncomfortable experience since they were rectal suppositories, seeing as how I couldn't keep anything down in my stomach, but they did work. I haven't puked since. Went back to the Doctor's on Friday, April 6th, to find out the diagnosis. Filled out more paperwork, answered more questions, ended up lying around waiting for them to find my blood test results. Turns out they were misspelling my last name and hence looking in the wrong place. But eventually they did find it and it turned out I had Hepatitis A. And that I was neither Anemic nor Diabetic. The Anemic was a surprise, we all thought I was, but I'd never really thought I was Diabetic even if other people did. So, Hepatitis A, very lucky. Nothing to do for it but stay hydrated and wait for it to work it's way through my system, which it had almost finished doing, and wash my hands a lot and hope I didn't infect anyone in the meantime. And then I'll have immunity forever, from that version anyway. ^_^

We've narrowed down the most likely places I got it from to either John's Burgers or Sonic, maybe Jack-in-the-Box. I'm pretty sure I ate at all of them within a one to two-week period before my getting sick, which is how long it's supposed to take before symptoms show. I really have to wonder how hard it is for a food-service worker to read and obey a sign telling them to wash their hands thoroughly after using the restroom. Especially since it's just plain gross not to. I suppose now I need to let some sort of health people know so they can investigate and penalize the infected person, since I'm probably not the only one who got sick. My Uncle says I should sue after they figure out which one it was. xd

What a sucky Spring Break. biggrin
